A Steal for the Performance
- Pros: This is a really great bargain. I purchased this memory for a new 3d workstation/gaming rig running Vista Ultimate 64-bit and the performance is astounding. Great timings for the capacity of the modules and rock-solid stability.
- Cons: Not so great with overclocking. Doesn't really want to operate over 1000MHz but that's hardly a con.
- Other Thoughts: This memory does exactly what it was designed for, does it well, and does without flinching. It's definitely a case of capacity-over-performance, and one could do slightly better with memory specifically binned for high performance and the strain of overclocking but as my first choice I'm really impressed. My MSI P35 Platinum motherboard auto-detected this memory as 6-6-6-16 so I manually set the timings to 5-5-5-15 as stated on the memory's factory sticker and haven't had any problems. Currently running at 835MHz with the bus clocked to 333MHz (200MHz default, 1:1.25 cpu:memory ratio, I think) and have not had any issues with intense, long duration gaming. Because of the pricing I'm honestly considering purchasing a second kit.

Manufacturer Response:Hi we do have a new F2-8000CL5D-4GBPQ if you want to run DDR2 1000 :) thank you
Very nice price for decent chips
- Pros: low voltage means low heat, high frequency, pretty good CAS #'s, fall right in line with stability
- Cons: if you only have 2 slots for ram, you may not see a huge speed boost.
- Other Thoughts: CAS #'s are where RAMs speed sits. don't be fooled too much by the '1066 Mhz' boast.
the 5's are (giving short version as to keep post small) the number of times the CPU has to skip a write/read to give the RAM time to recover. the last number is the overall time before the bank is flushed. if the last number is less than 1st+2nd+3rd, you will chance getting stability probs. but if it's too high, you will be wasting cycles. Proper Motherboard support should make these fly, and still be stable. (DualMode will allow the CPU to alternate write between chips, essentially halving the 5, to a 2.5). Having more ram chips, and a decent NorthBridge will compliment them well.

follow up review
- Pros: This is a follow up review from my previous one (1/29/2010). Replacement set of RAM works fine after extensive testing with memtest86. Nice to know that even after newegg's return policy is over, i can still get support through g.skill, although i haven't had the chance to use them yet. But from the reviews where they've had to use them, it seems easy to use. Both Newegg and G.Skill were very responsive and that's a good sign of customer service.
- Cons: Nobody likes getting DOA and/or defective merchandise, but that's the way of life. Know the proper procedures for repair/replacement and be done with it.
- Other Thoughts: If I had waited another week, I could've gotten an i3 setup insead of c2d for roughly the same price, but I'm not complaining. It's for my wife. Sims 3 and Photoshop will probably be the biggest cpu load on this box.

Recently received two bad kits
- Pros: Originally bought 2 kits a couple years ago for two new builds. I was thrilled with the results. Popped right in and work with two different motherboards and never a problem since install. Then came a recent upgrade with a new kit...
- Cons: Recently upgrade one box to 64-bit Win 7. Bought another kit to upgrade to 8GB total. First kit would not post on install. I didn't test each stick individually, just RMA'd for another very smooth New Egg return. The replacement kit installed and booted with no problem. But two weeks later one of the new sticks failed.
- Other Thoughts: I'll be trying the G.skill RMA process for the first time to replace the failed stick. Will review here my impressions. After being thrilled with this product a couple years ago, I have to admit my opinion has been tarnished under my recent troubles. Perhaps G,skill can mount a save with impressive trouble free and low stress warranty replacement.
