- Other Thoughts: I noticed concerns in previous post about not getting any accessories with this drive. This is an OEM drive.... you get the drive in a plastic bag and that is it. If you want the accessories buy the more expensive retail drive.
On formatting size: no hard drive formats to its advertised size. There is overhead and the fact that computers think 1 K is 1024.
Have 3 Of These
- Pros: I keep seeing reviews of bad drives. Well...I don't know what happened to those who encountered problems, but I have bought 3 of these drives at different time intervals, and they do like ALL the WD drives have done in the past, WORK, and work great.
- Cons: I need 2 more! ;-)
- Other Thoughts: I have a Lian Li full tower case with plenty of cool air circulating throught this great case. Some have said these 500GB drives run hot. Maybe it's my case, but mine seem to run normally. Seem to run fairly fast as well. I've transferred 2.6 GB's from one drive to another in about 75 seconds. Not too bad. Bottom line on these Western Digital drives. I haven't run into "ANY" of the problems many have complained about concerning these drives. I LIKE em. These great drives do nothing but function exactly as advertised.

Failure after 10 months
- Pros: What can I say? I got 10 months out of it? I really don't consider that a pro. I guess I'm just reaching here.
- Cons: Lasted about 10 months, then a head crash. Didn't back up the data. Luckily though, the data wasn't that important. This was a shocker since WD is usually rock solid (I own mostly WD drives). I guess perhaps that's more hype than truth.
Wonderful Product
- Pros: Used as my primary drive ffor applications/games for over a year. Fast enough for gaming. Performs well. No errors. Isn't loud. No problems installing the drive.
- Cons: None.
Good while it lasted
- Pros: Bought this drive last April, worked like a charm up until March of this year.
- Cons: For less than a year's worth of "moderate" usage, this drive should be able to hold up. Now it will lock up my PC, wouldn't format, wouldn't scan, and makes loud banging like noises.
- Other Thoughts: Lost tons of data thanks to WD, WD will lose at least one customer (me), and others (friends, people who read my blog, etc).
