Great Drive for MacBooks or MBP
- Pros: Great drive! Fast enough for a large capacity 2.5''. Small enough to fit in the really compact 2.5'' external enclosures.
- Cons: It does feel <a hair> slower than my 80GB.. Really only a little noticeable during long loads.. Almost don't want to put it on here because it isn't that bad, but it is definetely noticeable.
- Other Thoughts: This installed quite easily into my MacBook, and it is a GREAT upgrade for the dollar. If you use OSX, you should buy a cheap 15-25$ external 2.5'' HDD enclosure. With OSX, I was able to put my old 80GB drive in the enclosure after installing the new one. Then you can boot to your old OS in the enclosure. Then you can just use DiskUtility to copy the entirety of the old drive on the new one!! Its a long process for 70GB of data (and it failed on me the first time), but once it finally got over, it was fantastic!
Very good performer vs the 7200's
- Pros: This drive is the best out there for low power use, large size, and performance. It has as good of (in some cases even better) performance as my old 100gb 7200 rpm Hitachi, and that says something! I do a lot of gaming, and as expected this does not affect FPS or benchmarks. Load times are not longer either, even measuring a transfer of various files sizes it come out equal or better than my 7200.
- Cons: There aren't really any. Price would be the only con, but you should expect to pay more for one of the largest available drive. 7200 rpm 200-250gb drives are coming next year, but I just couldn't wait that long.
- Other Thoughts: If you're worried about going from a 7200rpm to this 5400rpm as I was - don't be. I did a lot of research on brands and benchmarks so that I knew what to expect, and I expected a small performance loss. I noticed no change in boot up speed or file transfer rates, and considering this is 60% larger than my old drive that makes this a very good buy!

Upgraded on my Sony Playstation 3
- Pros: Works great with the Sony Playstation 3, flawless performance.
- Cons: None
- Other Thoughts: I had a 60GB HDD before. Also it comes out to be 149GB when you put it in your PS3 and it formats it's self.
about 4 months and now it died
- Pros: CHEAP (COMES WITH BADNESS). It was pretty quite for 3 months, but then it started to get real hot in short time.
- Cons: This is a very bad hard drive. I read other reviews and should have taken them seriously instead of looking for a low price. I lost couples of software I purchased online and my linux ISOs. I also lost some of my recent spreadsheet I am working on (thank goodness some minor updates). The irony is I was doing back up few minutes before it failed. Somehow, before I backup the rest of those big files; for some unknown short period of insanity I stopped the backup to my external harddrives and decided to reboot the computer. Since then, they are "terminated" and "wouldn't be back" anymore.
- Other Thoughts: If you want to know my state of conditions right now. I AM VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY ANGRY! OTHER PEOPLE, BE WARNED YOU GET WHAT YOU PAID FOR THIS LOW CHEAP ITEM.
Do you think Hitachi will accept my item back for labor? I am still under 1 year warranty, since I bought it on 1/13/08. Newegg, are you listening to my rant? I know it's Hitachi fault but you gotta do something to stop this from happening, please. Look at the review here on this page. I am one of the victim.
- Pros: Nice way to upgrade hard drive on my MacBook, solid price
- Cons: The infamous hard drive clicking started about a year into it
- Other Thoughts: Outside of the drive failing after a year, it worked quite well
