With up to 320GB of pure digital storage in a single drive, the Barracuda 7200.10 may be the largest, most reliable disc drive around. New perpendicular recording technology provides vertically stored data bits, enabling increased data density and dependability for workstations and PCs. The hard drive's 3.0Gb/s Serial ATA interface enables the user to connect to, and work with, other systems at a faster speed without any extra effort. The hard disk has a 16MB cache and works at 7200RPM, blowing away the 5400RPM “limit” for large scale hard drives.

Each time your PC is switched on, the Clean Sweep feature will fine-tune your drive, maintaining both media and drive reliability. Adaptive Fly Height maintains the distance between disc head and platter, based on fluctuations in environmental operating conditions. The Seagate SoftSonic Motor facilitates noiseless operations, while the Enhanced G-Force Protection prevents data corruption. In short, you have a set of features designed to ensure that your precious data will stay safe for a long time to come.

  • newegg SATA 3.0 Gb/s Interface The next-generation SATA interface supports up to 3.0 Gb/s data transfer rates, Native Command Queuing (NCQ) and hot-pluggable point-to-point connections to allow the Seagate Barracuda ST3320620AS to deliver optimum performance, efficiency, convenience and flexibility
  • newegg Perpendicular Recording Perpendicular recording technology enables industry-leading capacity in existing standard form factors and improves performance by increasing data density while reducing moving parts for enhanced reliability.
  • newegg SoftSonic Motor Seagate's SoftSonic motor enables whisper-quiet operation.
  • newegg Enhanced G-Force Protection Enhanced G-Force Protection helps defend the hard drive against damage.

Pros: Bought this back 04/2007 and has been running continuously ever since and still works!

Cons: It hasn't died yet so I haven't' had a reason to go SSD!

5 out of 5 eggs6 Years Later, still going strong

Pros: Very reliable drive. Bought in 2007 and it still works flawlessly to this day. Unfortunately storage capacity needs have grown, and this drive is only 320GB. I wish I bought more of these back then, seeing as drives today tend to be hit or miss....

Cons: None that I can think of. For an older drive this has great speeds and a large cache, plus a large size for a drive being released during the end of the XP days.

Other Thoughts: I would buy again. WD drives seem to fail frequently these days. Hopefully Seagate still has good quality control.

5 out of 5 eggsFrom 10/14/2006 the beat goes on!!!

Pros: Over 6 years, I've put the original two I purchased in multiple Frankenstein systems I've built. Finally about to sell them as I plan on building a brand new rig from the ground up. Completely satisfied happy to part with them knowing how reliable they were for me. Hope to get the same performance out of the two ST2000DM001 that will be replacing them.

Cons: Lack infinite storage capacity :(

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Not sure why I'm bothering to write this now, but it's lasted for five years now and keeps on going. Reasonably fast drive for it's time. Hasn't caused a single issue since I bought it.

5 out of 5 eggsOriginal and replacement both failed (update)

Pros: I am posting an update to my previous review. I contacted Seagate and expressed my concerns about receiving the same model that had failed twice before.
Seagate e-mailed me back assuring me that they wanted to resolve this problem. I had suggested a different Seagate model with positive reviews and similar capabilities (Constellation), and Seagate agreed to ship it to me. Seagate even sent me a postage-paid label.

Cons: Bad hardware is always a hassle.

Other Thoughts: I'm very pleased with Seagate's commitment to customer support. I see bad hardware all the time at work, and I know it can happen from any manufacturer. Based on the way Seagate handled this situation, I am happy to buy and recommend their products.

1 out of 5 eggsOriginal and replacement both failed

Pros: When these drives work, they are great. Seagate's Sea Tools is a good free tool for hardware diagnostics.

Cons: I bought 2 of these hard drives in April 2008. In September 2009, the drive I was using as storage started having problems being recognized in the BIOS.

HD Tune and Sea Tools told me the drive was bad. Chkdsk, SeaTools, SpinRite, etc. weren't able to get the drive running properly again. In the end, I sent it back to Seagate. Unfortunately, they sent me a refurbished hard drive on the same model.

Now, June 2011, the replacement hard drive they sent is no longer recognized in Windows. It's recognized in the BIOS, but HD Tune and Sea Tools both diagnosing the drive as bad and irreparable.

Other Thoughts: Seagate's 5-year warranty is not helpful because I have to keep paying to ship my drive back to Seagate only to have them send me the same problematic model. Luckily I have backups, otherwise I would have lost my data!

I work in the IT field and I don't think I will buy or recommend Seagate for the time being.
