1 out of 5 eggsBiggest Piece of Junk ever bought...

Pros: They at least got the color right...

Cons: Barely ever recognizes the type of CD or DVD put in. Usually have to reboot for it to work about 20 minutes then it craps out again.. Lite-On has the worst customer support I have ever seen... This will be the LAST Lite-On I ever own.. I will be treating this drive to a sledge hammer the second I get my replacement Samsung drive in...

1 out of 5 eggsBuggy

Pros: Did lightscribe labels well. Burned quickly when it worked. Pretty quiet.

Cons: Ran great at first, but then started taking forever to burn. Many times ripping would fail or take forever. Turns out it reverted from DMA mode to PIO mode. Changing in device manager didn't work. Had to uninstall IDE channel and then it went back to DMA mode. Worked great for a while and then randomly went back to PIO. Not system, ran another drive in it's spot no problem. Final straw was when it would burn a disc and wouldn't read it. My NEC drive would and Nero said there were no errors. What the heck?

Other Thoughts: I used to buy Lite-On all the time but this is my 3rd drive from them that has been squirrelly.

3 out of 5 eggsNot a good drive first time around

Pros: Drive arrived fast, was easy to install, and ran flawlessly... for around 3 months.

Cons: After the first few months, drive began to get glitchy. Would have a hard time reading pre-manufactured DVD media (games and movies) and would have a hard time with burnable DVDs. Troubleshooting didn't help and seemed to make it worse. Lite-on Tech support was non-existant. RMA'd it and waiting for the new one. We'll see how it goes from here.

Other Thoughts: Even though it's a low price for the drive, it should last longer than a couple of months. Heck, I only used the burner capability a handful of times before it started to act up. Used it mainly to do backups, copy some CD's, and play a game that required the DVD (wasn't even accessing the disk the whole time). I'm leary about the replacement and hope that it was just a bad unit that made it past QA.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive

Pros: Great drive. I does what it was designed to do, burn disks. I have yet to make a coaster. LightScribe is very cool, however it takes a while depending on the design.

Cons: I had to pay for it. :-)

Other Thoughts: The drive runs great. I cannot hear it over my music. (I can carry on a normal conversation without lowering the music.) My wife wants one now! :-\

4 out of 5 eggsOutstanding burner, excellent value!

Pros: This is an extremely high quality DVD burner. When paired with "A" grade media (Verbatim), the write quality is just phenomenal. I did a DVD scan with K-probe and the average error rate was extremely low, lower than I've ever seen. Lightscribe I guess is a pro, although I've never used it and don't plan to, but the option is there for people who do use it. The ability to use K-probe is a major plus for people like me who like to be sure of the quality of archived data. The retail package includes both a black and beige faceplate so it will match a majority of the towers out there.

Cons: The only reason I gave this product 4 out of 5 stars is because the first one I got failed in less than a year. It started producing a lot of coasters and the tray would lock up sometimes, requiring several presses of the eject button to eject the tray. There is a one-year warranty however and the return was hassle-free thanks to Newegg's outstanding customer service, so I got a replacement drive very quickly. The new drive has been trouble-free thus far, and hopefully it will stay that way.

Other Thoughts: The drive is a bit noisy when spinning up, and this may or may not be a con depending on who you are, but it is one of the noisier optical drives I've owned. Small price to pay though for the excellent writing quality, and for the price, this particular burner is a no-brainer if you're in the market for a DVD±RW DL drive.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk Burner - don't buy one

Pros: Burners that fail within 6 months get no "pros" from me.

Cons: Right off the bat, this burner would simply NOT allow for any Secondary Slave HDD to be recognized no matter how jumpers were configured. Ok, things worked with my 5th (2 SATA and 3 IDE) drive as Secondary Master - for a while. Now on occasion this burner simply dies, renames itself, fails to recognize an inserted DVD, loses power (no it's not my PS), then sometimes suddenly returns to life on reboot - or not.

Other Thoughts: I will never buy another Lite-On product unless they replace this unit with a different model that has a flawless success record. Companies only get one chance with me before they go on my poop list.

2 out of 5 eggsWent kerflooey on me after two months

Pros: Cheap price, came with Nero.

Cons: Worked fine for two months, then suddenly it stopped reading DVDs of any kind, even blanks. Hangs the PC when any kind of DVD is inserted.

Other Thoughts: If your priority is dependability, go for something else.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for those who need DVD burning technology

Pros: Burns DVDs, comes with Nero software, including video editing software, copying software, DVD making software and alot more. Burned a full DVD+RW in a decent amount of time. havent used it that much, so i dont know a whole lot about the software, but i have an older copy of Nero from another drive, and its handy to have. The drive is overall one of the best inexpensive drives ive bought

Cons: None
