AsusTek's multi-format DVD burner DRW-1814BLsupports all current popular optical drive formats, giving you maximum flexibility in back-up media. LightScribe technology permits burning the label directly onto the media. The PATA interface ensures maximum compatibility with older systems for upgrades and new system builds.

FlextraLink and FlextraSpeed technologies combine to monitor the buffer and the media to deliver the fastest burns possible. FlextraLink's buffer monitoring also prevents buffer underruns and the creation of unusable discs.

The patented Double Dynamic Suspension System II (DDSSII) is designed to minimize spindle vibration and harmonic resonances between components. This makes the drive quieter and also helps to reduce tracking errors.

Pros: Just ordered this burner a few days ago and was suprised at how quiet it is.I've burned a few DVD's and CD's so far and so far everything is flawless.If all goes well i plan to grab another one for my system!Definently worth the money.

Cons: None yet

Other Thoughts: In reguards to a comment below on mine it does indeed show a diagram for jumper settings on the top rear of the drive

Pros: I only bought this because of another review and they were right. This thing bearly makes a sound. I don't hear it over my processor fan all I see is a light blinking.

Cons: I only own one.

Pros: What can I say? It's a DVD burner, it's quiet, and it works. I've tested it on both WinXP and Ubuntu. Haven't tried the lightscribe functionality yet, but it's a nice feature if you have an extra 30-60 min to to kill by burning artwork to a disc.

Cons: It refuses to shatter CDs like my old 72x CD drive did. That was pretty cool.

Pros: Quiet drive. Burns fast, and had no compatability issues. Lightscribe sofware was not included but is a free download.

Over all, no complaints.

Cons: Unit did not come with any OEM software.

Other Thoughts: I don't know that I would bother with Lightscribe if the cost were much higher. The disks take 28min to etch. I recommend changing the settings to use higher contrast when printing disks. it almost doubles the time, but looks better.
