HP DVD Burner DVD740vi
- Pros: Work very well at all speeds, and do not go bad if something happens duringm the recording(like bad disk)
- Cons: NO Cons
Excellent
- Pros: This is an excellent drive. HP makes some of the most relieable optical drives available, despite what some have reviewed here. I have an older 540i DVD burner and it still works fine. I also have an even older 8x2x32x HP cd-writer that is still burning CDs to this day without a single coaster.
- Cons: Most of the cons comes from the media you use. HP's disks produce the clearest scribe work, though sometimes the data side of the disk is flaky. Verbatim and Memorex produce scribes that are less sharp, but tend to have a better data side.
- Other Thoughts: Great for puting a professional looking label on wedding videos, music CDs and a few DVD movie copies.
Failed after four months
- Pros: Great drive, while it worked.
- Cons: After a few months it lost track of the drive tray, so it opens whilst it is running and spits out a spinning disk. It won't read disks any more. I was advised to avoid HP optical drives years ago and I wish I had stuck to that advice.
- Other Thoughts: Lightscribe disks are an interesting concept, but they really aren't a common format. Until the disks are easy to find the functionality is a waste of time and money.
