5 out of 5 eggsBest Soundcard- prior or after!

Pros: Crisp, clear, sound that is boosted way beyond the audibility of onboard sound. Difference is like Mojave Desert versus Antarctica! Drivers for W7 64 bit work perfectly! It's lasted 3 years. It's got to last several more, because I believe it may be the last soundcard that actually processed all the sound offloaded from the cpu and ON the soundcard.

Cons: Not one.

Other Thoughts: I've not had one driver problem or other problem which can be attributed to the soundcard. A little research WILL get you to the Creative website where they definately have the W7 64-bit drivers.

2 out of 5 eggsbad drivers

Pros: Outputs good and strong sound when gaming or listening to music.

Cons: Unable to get audio in feature to work so I can play my iPad through my PC speakers. Something so simple got me really frustrated and I was never able to get this to work. I had other issues with my headset and mic configuration.

Other Thoughts: I've owned an older model of Sound Blaster and it worked really well in Windowx XP after they straightened out their driver / software issues. Had to upgraded to this card for Win 7 compatability. Maybe this card will be good in a few years. I ended up removing this card and went back to my onboard audio, which functions properly and easily. Headache gone.

4 out of 5 eggsLast of the good Creative low-profile cards

Pros: The highest level "low-profile" card that Creative made (not makes). Much better quality than my full-size Audigy LS card. Too bad the Audigy SE is the ONLY "low-profile" card that Creative still markets (that I'm aware of). The XtrmeGamer version actually processes sound from the card vs software-based processing. I can also hear the difference the "Crystalizer" makes in the sound quality.

Cons: None, except that it's only a PCI slot card. But....there is a market for people who need "low-profile" (half-height) cards for their computers. It is too bad Creative chose not to keep on making them as a viable product for their newer more advanced sound-card lines. Unfortunately, Newegg was out of these cards, but I found one elsewhere on the internet.

Other Thoughts: Of course, no one says you have to go with Creative SoundBlasters. I'm just used to them because I've used Live and Audigy cards for the past 18 years. I have heard great things about the "low-profile" PCIeX16 ASUS Xonar DX cards which Newegg carries.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Bought this from Newegg two years ago now. I was looking for a good gaming soundcard that supports Win7 at the time. No issues whatsoever since install. There are some folks here complaining about drivers. I installed the latest one from Creatives website and had no issues on my 10 year old Dell Dimension 8300.

Cons: No major cons i can think of. My experience with this card has been great and flawless. I like the extra features and the sound is awesome so...

Other Thoughts: runs great on old systems, and with old systems running win7.

3 out of 5 eggsSounds good, but driver issues

Pros: Sounds are very clear. I notice the depth in sound while playing games such as Battlefield 3. Everything sounds good.

Cons: I have issues with the drivers for Windows 7 64-bit. There have been many time where I turn on my computer and the drivers aren't recognized and I have to reinstall them again (and restart my computer) for it to work again.

Other Thoughts: I am using the current drivers from their website but still have this issue. Has been better recently, but still happens time to time.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: You can tweak many settings, sound is good quality. It has digital and analog outputs/inputs. It has three separate modes to choose from (most people will probably use only entertainment and game modes though), and each profile keeps separate settings/tweaks.

Cons: Switching between modes may (very rarely!) cause sound issues for some programs (even if program was not running when switched). It only has 4 ports for connections. It has no optical out. Two prominent settings (cmss-3d and switching between audio modes) can't really be customized as much as some would like. entertainment and game mode sound noticeably different even if settings are kept exactly the same for both modes, so it would be nice to see and change those hidden settings

Other Thoughts: I don't know if it is worth the money (~$50), or rather if it is worth $50 more than onboard audio, which comes with many more ports, just as many settings that can be tweaked, but have to divert resources from cpu and ram. On a computer with a core i5 2550, geforce gtx 560 ti, and 8GB of ram, i suspect the resource use to be negligible. for $50 I could have doubled my ram and slightly overclock my cpu
