3 out of 5 eggsGood when it works

Pros: Bought this back in '07, still running.
linksys builds powerful routers

Cons: - gets lots of dropped connections
- linksys website setup is horrible
- some of the items don't connect and when they do they drop (like ps3)

Other Thoughts: I am following up on '07 product it is with a friend as of 2010, and he has the same problems, I just gave it to him cause he didn't have a router.

4 out of 5 eggsGood, but weak.

Pros: It works great with my Wii, allowing me to do online gaming on it.

Cons: Doesn't have much else as far as performance. Tried DD-WRT firmware and ended up having to go back to the default firmware since the router was too weak to handle it.

Other Thoughts: I've yet to test multiple PCs on it, will do so in the future, however.

2 out of 5 eggsLow Quality

Pros: Supports flashing with DD-WRT Micro. Works great as a light usage internet router.

Cons: Drops connection and gets pretty buggy when you're trying to host anything more than a simple internet connection. If you use this for bittorrent, or for a network with heavy file-server use of more than 3 clients, then get something better!

Other Thoughts: There are other G routers on newegg for about the same money with a much higher quality, supports DD-WRT, and even has a detachable antennae. In other words, keep looking or get the WRT54GL.

2 out of 5 eggsLinksys = bunch of thieves

Pros: The router works when configured properly. I get decent reception on the wireless throughout my house.

Cons: Linksys support is terrible. I've had mine for 7 months, today I had an issue where I had to call their support line. Even though it has a 1 year support warranty they 'informed' me that my warranty had expired because it starts when the product is manufactured and shipped out.

In order to get help I was backed into a corner having to pay for 6 months of extended support or a one time support incident cost of $30....which is basically half the cost of the product itself. Ridiculous.

Other Thoughts: Customer support is important, next time I will buy a different brand.

5 out of 5 eggsReliability is key

Pros: I "upgraded" from this router to a Netgear WGT624v4. However, I started having problems after 6 months of operation. Packets were being dropped at a 10% rate, which from my research shows to be beyond acceptable by Ethernet standards, and websites were taking forever to connect to. My ping times were skyrocketing in game and I generally couldn't get anything Internet-related finished. I got frustrated and reverted back to the WRT54G and it has worked flawlessly, even after more than 2 years of use.

Cons: Occasionally drops wireless connections, which sometimes requires me to either restart the router or restart the wireless connection on my laptop, but that's no big deal. Wireless technology is not supposed to be 100% reliable. I used my wired computer more often than my wireless computer anyway, and since my wired computer is my gaming computer and I get great pingtimes with it, that's all I really care about.

Other Thoughts: More likely than not, Newegg is selling the V5 version of this router, which is not capable of having upgraded firmware. Also, at the time of this writing, it's a bit overpriced here on Newegg, so you may want to search around for a lower price. Linksys does have an official firmware-flashable version of this router, the WRT54G-L, which Newegg sells. The upgraded firmware allows you to do a lot of extra stuff with your router, so you may want to do a bit of research on that if customizing your firmware is your thing.

5 out of 5 eggs1st time user

Pros: The unit arrived quickly, and I had it set up that very evening. I was concerned about setting up my first router, but there were no troubles. I simply followed the instructions. It connects fine with my old wireless card, and the new wireless system built into the new laptop. Linux & Windows; no troubles.

Cons: None I can think of. I have not come across a problem.
