5 out of 5 eggsExcellent vintage machine

Pros: The T61 carries the proud Thinkpad title well. Its sturdy. Has a nice keyboard and even today with just its dual core is more laptop then most people will ever need. It accepts up to 8gb of RAM. Officially its only 4gb but 8gb works. This beauty works like a charm with Windows 8 and Linux. Its CD/DVD drive comes out and a second hard drive in a special caddy can go in. The T60 and T61 are fantastic buys.

Flash the bios and try a SSD. The bios flash is found on several sites and makes the SATA 1 into SATA 2.

Cons: Heavy by today's standards. Sub par speakers. Some units suffer from poor build quality. RAM upgrades beyond 4gb can be expensive as older RAM is pricey.

Other Thoughts: If you are debating between the T60 or this get this. If you use Linux you may have to search of the video card drivers. Duo booting with Linux and Windows with the second hard drive may require that you do NOT use the guided Linux install. You will need to define root / and /home.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat priced notebook

Pros: Great screen, IBM keyboard , fast CPU (faster processing with upgraded RAM), fast hard drive, top quality, and Windows XP Professional edition.

Cons: The screen is slightly dimmer without the power adapter, but no worries, I like the energy star power mode.

Other Thoughts: This is my first laptop which I bought for college. I also like the a three year warranty, even though it was about 6 months into it, which is still great. I believe this laptop was one of the best deals anywhere; store, other retailers. Don't hesitate and by this notebook a.s.a.p.

5 out of 5 eggsBest laptop for the money!

Pros: Fantastic screen, IBM keyboard (enough said), fast CPU, fast hardrive, top built quality and, windows xp pro.

Cons: slightly dim screen without the power adapter.

Other Thoughts: I have owned several computers of the past, both macs and PCs, and this is the finest laptop I have ever used. This lenovo is so much better then ordering a dell and this is a amazing deal for the money. The built quality is probably the best out there and it comes with a three year warranty!

5 out of 5 eggsSolid

Pros: Solid build. Great value at Newegg prices. Up and running in no time without a lot of pre-loaded nonsense. Newegg fulfillment is amazing!

Cons: Nothing significant.

Other Thoughts: Needed this fast for replacement. Newegg came through with it right on time once again!

5 out of 5 eggsWonderful

Pros: I purchased two of these for a client, they are great.
Well built, not to much junk preloaded, and they are warranteed until sept 2010.
Very nice.

Cons: Doesn't come with a case. Lenovo software and driver updates are gigantic. Needed several GIGS of downloads to get up to date, and a rather important bios update.

Other Thoughts: This is a fantastic price for the quality of the laptop. Just buy another gig of ram, they come with 1 gig on one stick. Xp Pro preload rocks! Down with Vista!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value and Warranty

Pros: This is my third Thankpad T model that I've owed. The real pro's with this model is it has the T7300 cpu, has Windows XP Professional and best of all has the EZServe 3 year warranty; mine expires 8-26-10. Wish it came with a DVD burner, but is still a 5 star value

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Buy 2:>)

5 out of 5 eggsmy first ThinkPad

Pros: Speed. This baby really churns out results for me.
Keyboard. Amazing feel, responsiveness and quiet too.
Runs cool. I have had it on for hours, multitasking between large files, and has never gotten hot(only warm.)

Cons: Weak speakers.
Bad placement of head phone jack if you want to connect external speakers instead of headphones.

Other Thoughts: This is my first ThinkPad, so I do not have a point of reference, but I am really impressed with it's performance so far.

5 out of 5 eggsLove it

Pros: I have had this for one week now and it is great. This is my third ThinkPad. I have heard several reports of poor build quality since Lenovo bought out IBM's hardware line, but mine is flawless. It really puts my Compaq to shame. The trackpoint is much better than a touchpad. Noticeably faster harddrive than the 5400 RPM model in my other laptop.

Cons: The pictures on this site are of a different model! They are actually of a 15.4' T61. The one being sold does not have the flash card reader slot. It does have a Cardbus slot and an ExpressCard 54 slot. They use the same opening/door and are stacked one above the other, so it will not be possible to use 2 cards that both have oversized external portions, such as eSata cards. The door swings inward, so if only one card is installed the other slot will be open to dust. The lack of a DVD burner is a bit of a pain when it comes to making backups or copies of the recovery software. The screen has a poor vertical viewing angle.

Other Thoughts: The memory in mine is a single 1GB stick, which is great for upgrading. Mine is from Samsung. All 3 antenna wires are there if you want to upgrade to an 802.11N wireless card. If you are not a gamer, the X3100 is a better choice than the Nvidia card due to less heat and better battery life. Recovery partitions are standard with most laptops these days. If you don't want it, get an external DVD burner or several CDs and make a copy, then reformat it. Run System Update and update the drivers and software right away, but search the Lenovo site for the bootable CD method of updating the BIOS. This is much safer. I'll be installing 64 bit Kubuntu 7.10 this weekend, and by all reports everything is fully supported after a couple extra drivers are added. Some people consider the Thinkvantage software to be bloatware, but I find almost all of it useful. If this configuration fits your needs, it is an excellent value.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Machine

Pros: This is the third ThinkPad that I have purchased, and the quality still remains top notch. Several friends of mine did run Vista on their ThinkPads with no problem. (Then they switched to Ubuntu shortly though.) The price from Newegg is really great. The 100GB hard drive at 7200 RPM is more than enough for a laptop. Love the keyboard as it did not change that much from my T60.

Cons: The USB ports are vertical and not horizontal. (No big deal though.) It's also a tad bit thicker tahan my T60. (Once again, no big deal.)

Other Thoughts: ThinkPads are definitely the best laptops made today. Maybe Newegg will start loading them with Ubuntu already on them.
