Thermaltake has long been an innovator in the realm of CPU cooling with many of its thermal strategies being adopted by OEM and other companies. Thermaltake continues to bring innovative solutions to unique CPU cooling challenges with the compact Venus CL-P0075 cooler.

With the entire unit barely larger than the 80mm fan, and only 62mm tall, the CL-P0075 packs heatpipe cooling technology into a very small package. The heatpipes draw heat from the copper base to be dissipated from the tightly configured, thin aluminum fins. The fins are configured to maximize surface area for optimal heat removal. The integrated temperature speed control lets the ball bearing mounted fan move between 32 to 60 CFM of cooling air while operating at 2800 to 5500 RPM.

The CL-P0075 mounts without tools by use of a clip and does not require removal of the motherboard. It is designed to support AMD Opteron and Athlon 64 processors as well as the Athlon 64 FX55 CPUs.

  • newegg Superior Heat Dissipation and Cooling Performance The Thermaltake CL-P0075 features innovatively-designed copper heatpipes, coupled with a large copper base and high-density fins, for excellent heat dissipation. Plus an 80mm cooling fan maximizes airflow for superior cooling performance.
  • newegg Easy Installation The Thermaltake CL-P0075 features tool-less clips that enable extremely convenient installation without additional tools or the need to remove the motherboard from your case.

3 out of 5 eggsHMM

Pros: Lasted for 2 years silently

Cons: After 2 years of working at low rpm it started to rattle and make all kinds of noises! YIKES

4 out of 5 eggsOne out of two DOA

Pros: Reasonable price, decent heatsink, working one seems to cool CPU decently.

Cons: One out of two DOA.

Other Thoughts: I ordered two of these heatsink/fans for a dual-processor Opteron setup. Got everything plugged in, and one of the fans didn't work. While mishaps do happen in production, I'm still sorta disappointed, but I'm not going to let that hamper the score of the working unit.

4 out of 5 eggsQuite... That's all I wanted.

Pros: It's a lot quieter than my stock AMD cooler.

Cons: It really didn't lower my temps with arctic silver, but that's something I think I can deal with. I may reapply it later.

Other Thoughts: It's very quiet under heavy loads. Just a little noise on cold startups.

5 out of 5 eggsLong lasting, excellent cooling

Pros: I've had this thing for five years,. I have gone through 3 CPU upgrades in that time and have had no need to get a new HSF. This keeps my Phenom X4 around 28c Idle, 35-40c at load. Just stellar for such an old product.

Cons: None, none, and none.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great for me!

Pros: This fan has always kept my AMD Athlon 3000+ (1.8Ghz) cool, usually just under 40 deg. at idle and only a few degrees above that at load. I don't overclock so it's not like I'm maxing out the capabilities of the fan anyway, but it's been a solid workhorse cooling solution for me.

Cons: Like a few others, I have noticed that the fan apparently does not "throttle up" to higher speeds under load. Really a non-issue for me, but it is advertised as a variable-speed fan.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Quality Control!

Pros: I was running temp/fan monitoring software, and my CPU survived.

Cons: Upon installation, CPU temp climbed to 70C with minimal load, although the fan was running at some 4800 rpm (max speed).

After fix (see Other Thoughts), fan is noisy.

Other Thoughts: After nearly frying my CPU, I removed the cooler and found the factory-applied thermal grease was not in contact with the CPU! I replaced it with Arctic Silver and it performs adequately (high CPU temp of 55C), though fan has a noise (not mere loudness) at higher speeds.

(Fan is still running faster at lower speeds than I'd like, e.g. 3668 at 53C.)

Certainly seems to me Thermaltake could have had a little better quality control! I give it one egg one because after I fixed it, it does actually work, and because I can't give it zero eggs.

I'm running a non-O.C. Opteron 175, seldom at full load, and I didn't think I needed a Big Honkin' cooler. But this one is pathetic.

5 out of 5 eggsDoing it's job well

Pros: Solid copper base and heat pipes with aluminum fins. 80mm fan does not make any whine or significant amount of noise. Not too big, great for smaller cases (but always do your measurements!)

Cons: I'd like to see an updated fan for this with the 4-wire PWM controls. No worries, I can upgrade the standard size 80mm fan at a later date

Other Thoughts: Currently keeping my AMD Phenom II x4 925 below 40 degrees C while doing CPU-intensive, multi-threaded programs. Nice cooler.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks decent

Pros: The device works well, as advertised, but doesn't really cool much over stock cooling. Id recommend this for anyone replacing their factory heatsink/fan combo due to a bad fan or just wanting to make the case look nicer, but not really to anyone looking to Overclock their AMD

Cons: None, other than it doesn't cool any better than a factory heatsink/fan combo.

Other Thoughts: If I would've been less cheap, and gone for a better, more expensive one, I feel I probably would've been happier, but it's my own fault for not doing so.
