TR2TT TR2-M12 80mm Ball CPU Cooler

  • 2500±10% RPM
  • 32.4 CFM
  • Copper
ICON Loading...

Step up from the stock cooling fan and heatsink that came with your processor with the TR2TT TR2-M12 CPU cooling fan and heatsink. Made for use with Intel Socket 478 processors, such as Intel Pentium 4, Celeron D or Intel Pentium 4 Prescott procesor the all-copper base absorbs heat and transfers it to the OptiFin heatsink more efficiently than other materials. A tool-free metal clip makes installation easy.

An 80mm, 2,500rpm, single-ball-bearing fan, which has a longer life and better heat endurance than a sleeve-bearing fan, sits on top of the heatsink pushing heat out away from the processor. The fan is rated at an operational sound level of just 21dB. A simple connection to a standard 3-pin fan port on your motherboard is all that’s needed for power.

  • newegg Pure Copper Base and Fins A pure copper base and copper fins maximize heat dissipation surface area for excellent cooling performance.
  • newegg Extra Quiet The ball bearing 80mm fan works at a whisper-quiet 21 dBA.
  • newegg Socket 478 Compatible Compatible with the Socket 478 platform, the TR2TT TR2-M12 supports a wide range of Celeron and Pentium 4 CPUs (up to 3.6GHz).

4 out of 5 eggsGood cooler

Pros: Good quality
Fairly quiet.

Cons: Mounting mechanism not the best, but effective.

Other Thoughts: Thermaltake is the only way to go for cases, power supplies and coolers in my opinion.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Cools very well
Very quiet for cooling capacity
Price is very good!
High quality

Cons: Not as silent as passive cooling

Other Thoughts: I bought this 9 months ago and installed it in a computer that runs 24/7. The CPU in this computer is an old Socket 478 Pentium 4 3.4 GHZ, CPU-world list the processor at 89 Watts TDP with a max of 102 Watts. Under normal running conditions idle temperatures with this cooler are 29-34 degrees C. Loaded temperatures are generally under 40 degrees C. Running Prime95 until max temperature reached it peaks at 45 degrees C. This is in a house that generally stays about 25 degrees C. Temperatures were taken with a wire probe taped to the underside of the heatsink as close to the processor as possible. Arctic Silver 5 was used as thermal compound.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Good Years Later

Pros: - Keeps that P4 Prescott cool
- I can OC from 2.8 to 3.36 with good temp

Cons: - Not quiet
- Can be hard to get clean

Other Thoughts: - Upgraded this from the smaller Thermaltake model (60 or 70mm model, don't remember) and this one works even better.
- Used with Arctic Silver

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Solid copper means efficient heat transfer. Keeps my 2.6GHz Pentium 4 in my test server nice and cool.

Cons: Solid copper means it's pretty hefty. Be carful when you move the computer around. The fan can also get a little loud at max speed.

Other Thoughts: Never had a problem with Thermaltake's products. Always a good choice.

4 out of 5 eggsNot bad for little $$

Pros: Inexpensive. Easy to install.

Cons: No documentation whatsoever.

Other Thoughts: Once the old P4 Intel fan and heatsink were out, installation is a breeze. The two provided clips hook right into the P4's retention frame on the motherboard. There's thermal paste already applied to the bottom of the all-copper heatsink. Once you remove the plastic packing off the bottom of the heatsink, don't touch the grease or put it down onto anything that will stain or contaminate the grease.

Installed it an hour ago. It's like 85F in my office. There is a Radeon 9800 Pro that's passively cooled in my case. My CPU is slightly upclocked to 3.05 GHz. Two additional Antec fans move air in and out of the case. I fired up the system and played Team Fortress 2 for an hour straight.
No glitches or issues.
Normally after an hour in the summer my P4's stock HSF would be screaming! This Thermaltake setup is not a silent cooler but the fan runs at 2800 max and keeps me running in the 50C and up (not to 60C). My old fan setup would run at almost double that speed.

5 out of 5 eggsRock Solid Performance

Pros: Solid base
Ease of mounting

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I've owned this heatsink for over 5 years now, and it makes all the difference in the older P4 systems (just because they're old doesn't mean they're not still useful). We all know that the Prescott cores have a tendency to run hot, and this was my solution to the sub-par performance of the stock Intel heatsink. I took mine a step further and removed the Themaltake fan that comes on the M12 and installed a Vantec Tornado 80mm case fan (84CFM @ 6000RPM). After hooking everything up to a Thermaltake Hardcano 12SE controller, I'm able to run 24/7 at 100% load without breaking 41*C in a 21*C room.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Well Made, Installs Well, Good Value

Cons: Fan is unable to maintain low temp.

Other Thoughts: Bought this for my new P4 3.06 installed on my Intel D845GE board. Temps were running in the low 120's (f) and would spike to mid 130's while periferal temps remained constant 110 to 118 degrees f. Replaced fan with a S-Flex 40.2CFM fan from Newegg, ran my "acid test" program which made cpu hit almost 138 deg before and it just barely touches 126 for a split second. Normal use temps run between 112-120. Very happy with the total package now. Recommended!

5 out of 5 eggsI want to write a follow up review after more testing... 5 EGGS!

Pros: Thermaltake.
After testing im noticing that I did experience a 5-10C drop on my cpu.
All copper design.
Is after testing performing better than the stock H+F!

Cons: None anymore!
Wish ARCTIC SILVER 5 produced similar results as this...

Other Thoughts: Keeping my old Socket 478 Pentium 4 2.8c nice and cool.

3 out of 5 eggsBetter than stock cooler?

Pros: Thermaltake is good...

Cons: I just dont see how this performs any better than my stock cooler... They seem to be doing about the same and I dont notice any major temp. drops. Im wondering if Arctic Silver is NECESSARY to see a difference... I have 2 tubes of it but I havent used them yet.

Other Thoughts: Im still trying to salvage my old socket 478 P4 2.8c rig so im beginning to experiment with overclocking much more to push it as far as it can go. However when I first tried overclocking over a year ago and when I try it now I get the same results with this CPU cooler... NO MAJOR DIFF IN TEMP DROPS...
