Fits like a glove!
- Pros: Perfect form, good construction quality, somewhat easy to install, although, it did require a MB removal. Good looks and perfect passive performance.
- Cons: It's kinda expensive and installing it could have been easier. How about a push pin style plug system with a threaded end so I didn't have to get the mb out...I don't have a tray either.
- Other Thoughts: It looks great and got rid of that little bee buzzing in my case. make sure you understand how it will fit and how to install it before you order it.
northbridge heatsink
- Pros: Works great. heatpipes position it out of the way of cards and other stuff. Mounting thingers allow it to be used on almost every board.
- Cons: the "IFX" design is kind of annoying, i'd rather have the plain one, but it was out of stock when I bought this. Easy to cut fingers on.
- Other Thoughts: I used this to replace the fanless heatsink on my MSI k9n platinum (rev 1.1), which has been known to run extremely hot. I literally could not hold my finger on that heatsink for more than 15 seconds without burning myself. With this, the heatsink (both the fins and the block itself) feels warm, not even hot, and thats without even using a fan.
Terrific MCP 55 cooling
- Pros: Outstanding cooling. The fins are far enough apart that the slight airflow in my poorly ventilated suffice for passively cooling the southbridge down to finger-touching coolness
- Cons: Minor gripe: The included thermal compound is generic gunk, not Thermalright's flagship thermal product...but you're probably going to use your own favorite other goop anyway since you're savvy enough to be purchasing this sort of component
- Other Thoughts: Easily installed on my Striker Extreme for much needed MCP southbridge cooling. It may be problematic in an SLI video installation though as it'll preclude installation of some longer cards. If that's in the cards for you then the more expensive SLI variant would probably be a better choice.
