The Zalman 9700 CPU cooler offers high-performance cooling in a unique design. The heatsink and fin assembly are made from 100 percent copper for improved heat dissipation. The base is built of both copper and aluminum, keeping the overall weight of the unit down while providing optimal heat transfer to the triple set of copper pipes. The curved heat-pipe design allows them to draw twice the amount of heat away from the processor.
At the center of the aerodynamically optimized tunnel created by the fins is a 110mm, blue LED fan. Included is the company's Fan Mate 2 fan-speed controller. In Silent mode the fan spins at 1,250rpm and creates 19dBA of noise, but when you need extra cooling for demanding tasks you can shift it up to 2,800rpm to quickly force heat away from your CPU and other system components.
The 9700 is compatible with all single- and dual-core CPUs for Intel's Socket 775 and AMD’s Socket AM2/754/939/940. All the clips and backplates are included so there's nothing else to buy to get the unit attached to your motherboard in minutes. A tube of Zalman's own thermal grease is bundled in as well.
Pros: First thing before you buy, check the clearance in your case! For socket 775 you will need 62mm between the pwr supply and the center of the CPU; 48mm between ODD and center of CPU. You also need 150mm from the main board to the case cover. I’ve got the Core 2 Duo chip 2.13 ghz with AUSU P5B-E mainboard. Idle temp went from 52 to 38. ASUS’ non-delay overclocking is on. Heavy tasking resulted in a drop from 58 degrees to 41.
Cons: Fan Mate2 is nice, but I’d rather have the mainboard control the fan speed (neat ASUS feature … Q-fan). Had to ask tech support if that is OK since they didn’t mention it in the installation instructions.

Works and looks good too...

Pros: It works. I've got my 2.13ghz Core 2 Duo clocked up past 3.2ghz and stays nice and cool with this. It looks good too. The combination of the LED fan and the beautiful copper look great.
Cons: Big and heavy. The spring clip that secures it has quite a lot of tension which makes installing it a bit difficult.
Other Thoughts: Fits great on my P5W DH Deluxe board in a Thermaltake Swing case. I've read many cooler reviews and the 9700 is always near the top of the list. When you add in the good looks and Zalman quality I think this one is a winner. It's pretty quiet. Silent at all but the highest fan speeds, and even then it is still barely noticable. It comes with a speed controller which I didn't use. I prefer to use the Speedfan utility.

Pros: Its extremely quiet, so most of the time I can barely hear it (the fan on my GPU is louder), and it does a really good job of keeping my CPU cool (I have an AMD Phenom x64 2.5 GHz quadcore overclocked to 2.8 GHz, and it usually stays between 40 and 48 Celsius.) The knob included helps controlling the fan speed really easy, much easier than using software like Speedfan or the like. Also, if your case has a window, the blue LEDs add a really cool glowing effect.
Cons: Cons... Its kind of on the difficult side to install. Its not hard to figure out, but you have to push pretty hard on the clip to make it snap into place, and that usually makes me nervous because electronics are delicate and I'm scared I'll damage the motherboard. Also, kind of common sense, but the fins are EXTREMELY sharp. I have accidentally cut myself on them many times.
Other Thoughts: The fan speed control knob really is a major plus. If the fan is too loud (which shouldn't be a problem because even at its loudest its a whisper) then you just turn the knob and lower the speed. Its a reasonable price, so if it will fit inside your case, I recommend this one all the way. The only reason I didn't give it 5 eggs was because its so difficult (and sometimes dangerous) to install.

Most Difficult Installation Ever

Pros: Cools very well. Nice blue light. Fan control thing is awesome!
Cons: Zalman must take pride in their ability to aggravate people when they are installing their CPU coolers. Once you can get this thing on top of your CPU it does the job, but getting it on can be quite confusing. I have never had a CPU heatsink installation that was more difficult than this one!
I couldn't even get the weird second brace thing on the cooler that goes over the one that screws on. So basically there is one bracket holding this thing on. The whole thing can move side to side a bit because there is nothing locking it in all 4 ways (Only 2).
When you're installing this thing you have to try to hold down the heatsink just right so you don't smear your thermal paste all over the place and practically break the bracket that screws in on top of it. You end up shifting everything around a bit and smearing thermal paste...what a frustrating ordeal.
Other Thoughts: Come on Zalman...take a look at what other CPU heatsinks are doing and get a clue...there are easier methods to install these things.

Great CPU Cooler

Pros: This is a great CPU cooler/fan/heatsink! I'm running an AMD Quad 2.6, and this heatsink brought down my CPU temps dramatically, while at idle and under full load. From 35C to 31C at idle, and from 55C to 45C under load while gaming!
Comes with an adjustable fan control switch, so you can manually adjust the speed of the fan, which is great if you're not running a heavy load all of the time.
Cons: Only possibles are the size and sound; may not fit some smaller or cramped cases (Check clearance before buying. Mine fit fine), and when at full speed, you can hear it (but that's common sense).
Other Thoughts: All around, definetely a great buy! Keeps the CPU cool at a great price. Highly Recommend!
