Microsoft Comfort Optical Mouse 3000

Pros: Comfortable design, nice features, USB, no batteries (wired). Tracks well for an optical mouse.

Cons: Magnification button broke off within the first year. Scroll button gets stuck every couple of revolutions and if you use extra force it gets depressed and counts as a click. I have random window open on me every time I scroll.

Other Thoughts: Nice design, If they only could have invested a little more in quality it would be a great mouse. If you only want it for a few months, it will be fine.

Pros: Cost, on sale and a promo code. Neweggs sales and service. Bought these almost 2 for 1. Little larger than the Logitech I was using. Took a few hours to get used to. Works fine. Have not the problems that others have with the scroll wheel, page run away, and ours are to easy to turn.

Cons: None. I should have bought 3.

Other Thoughts: Easy to install. Media came with these, or Windows 7 picks it up right away, and with in a half hour Windows Update is here to install it. Has a longer and heavier cord than most mice. A good buying experence.

Pros: Normally a nice, functional mouse. I've been using one for a couple of years.

Cons: Just purchased a replacement here at Newegg, and the one I received has a messed up scroll wheel. It's VERY hard to turn. So hard in fact that half the time I end up pressing the middle mouse button when trying to scroll. Newegg doesn't pay for return shipping even if you have a defective product, but the cost of return shipping makes it not worth returning. So I'd say buying this is a gamble.

Pros: Smooth scrolling if you want it. If you scroll 1-3 lines at a time, you may like this mouse.

Cons: Wheel, wheel, wheel.

Middle click is not straight down. It is about 45° down & back. After a while, I got used to it, mostly. I would get about 8/10 middle clicks right, but the misses were very frustrating.

Smooth scrolling means the wheel does not have "notches", and this makes scrolling one page per turn nearly impossible. There are indents that are barely perceptible, and because there are more than normal, the arc between each is much smaller. I finally gave up using the wheel to page down, and I started using the window scroll bar.

If you have your mouse wheel set-up to scroll one page, do not get this mouse.

If you extensively use the wheel as a middle click button, do not get this mouse.

Other Thoughts: I used this mouse for a year. I got used to it, but I never really liked it.

With Intellipoint, I was able to get the wheel scrolling to be usable. By maximizing the scroll acceleration and minimizing the number of lines, it was usable for most applications. For some applications, the acceleration did not work, and scrolling was painful.

The side button was interesting for a few days, but I never got used to it.

I have only used this mouse with Windows XP. For my Windows 7 computer, I started using an inexpensive basic mouse, and I have not returned to this one.

I gave it 3 eggs because some people may like the smooth scrolling, and it would be good for them.

Pros: -Smooth scrolling feels good for browsing
-For a large mouse, it really is comfortable.
-extra side button for those of you used to 3 button mice.
-Smooth movement for a cheaper mouse
-Still works after over a year of use

Cons: -Smooth scrolling is bad for practically everything else.
-Center button only works when the tilt wheel is in the center position and pressed firmly.
-Not the best quality, feels flimsy.
-Mine has a strange problem. If my phone is within a foot of this mouse and I get a text message, the mouse dies, usually until you unplug it then replug it.

Other Thoughts: This is not a gaming mouse or professional mouse, and should not be treated as such. It will not give you the most buttons or smoothest movements. You shouldn't expect it to.

It does the job of a low budget wired mouse pretty good, but seems to be made for those with larger hands.

So, if you want a decent large mouse that you want to use primarily for browsing purposes, this will do the job nicely. Otherwise, you're better off with something else.

Pros: Works on a basic level

Cons: Cheap feeling brittle plastic, imprecise feel to movement, ridiculously hard to push mouse wheel that sometimes fails to register a click despite the loud "clunk" noise, mushy feeling tilt wheel.

Other Thoughts: I'd expect this level of performance from a no-name bargain bin mouse but for this price and with a Microsoft logo on it, the quality is shockingly bad.

Pros: Excellent control. Works fine on windows 7 if you get the driver update from the microsoft site.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: The driver install on the disk that came with the mouse was blocked by windows 7, but the driver search on the windows 7 came up with an updated one which I installed and it works just fine.

Pros: Basic functionality, average size, responsive actions, no track ball to clean, nice look, the four slidepads do not collect desk "gunk" very quickly.

Cons: Tilt-wheel hard to tilt effectively; silver color fades at the fingertip areas over time (about 1 year).

Other Thoughts: Microsoft-endorsed hardware shouldn't require a product DVD to get the most out of the hardware; overall it's a good solid and basic mouse for general computing needs; I'm a designer and get the most out of this alongside my pen tablet; works well with FPS games and quick mouse movement in Guild Wars too; on my second mouse of this line now (the 3000 series).

Pros: Moves that pointer around on my screen.

Cons: There is one major problem with this mouse: The wheel is too hard to click or tilt. I am a professional software developer, and I use middle-click all the time. With this mouse, the amount of pressure required for that makes me move the mouse slightly, usually missing my target.

I've also owned an Apple Might mouse, and if you want omnidirectional scrolling from your wheel, Apple's design seems like the better approach.

Other Thoughts: I've always liked Microsoft input devices, and bought this one so I could use it with either hand. I'm now returning it and resuming my search.

Pros: Long-lasting for me. I typically prefer Logitech mice, but they tend to die quickly on me (6 months to a year).

Tilt-wheel is a must for me now.

I HATE the big, fat, ergonomic mice that "fit" only gargantuan man-hands. Similarly, I also hate the tiny little notebook mice that have quickly infested the market. I like the plain ordinary size (but decent fit) of this mouse.

Cons: It drives me crazy that the mouse wheel does not "click". Some people like this, but most gamers (even casual gamers like myself) will want to steer clear, as has been mentioned previously.

Wish it had 5 buttons - I want to be able to browse back AND forward sometimes!

Other Thoughts: Minor Cons, although the no-clicky wheel has banished it to my laptop for the remainder of its life.
