4 out of 5 eggsVery good, but needs upgrades

Pros: Huge Display
Awesome Speakers
Runs good (not great)
A lot of ports (*****)
HDMI
the thing is loaded with stuff!

Cons: Once I upgrated to Win7 the display gave out and i was forced to go back to the Standard Driver. Thankfully a new BIOS update came out
http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/modelContent.jsp?ct=DL&os=&category=&moid=1909336&rpn=PSPB9U&modelFilter=X205-S9800&selCategory=2756709&selFamily=1073768663

(hopefully that works) I was about to buy a new one until I found out there is a BIOS update that fixes the screen flickering and eventually crashes the driver.

Came loaded with a bunch of uselessware (easily deleted)

The Update System for Toshiba is horrible, you have to chase the updates (it doesn't automatically find them and recommend them for you).

Low of RAM.

Small HDD (for what i need it for)

Overheats quickly (recommend a cooling pad)

And of course the Battery Life is bad.

Other Thoughts: With upgrades hopefully the thing operates a lot better. We'll see.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Value

Pros: Very fast, runs Vista fine. Huge display. Sound quality is spectacular, so much better than my first laptop.

Cons: -A lot of bloatware - easily removed.
-When it came time to purchasing the computer the fingerprint scanner sounded awesome, I used it for the first week, then I went back to the password login.
-Battery life is short, but acceptable for what I need it for

5 out of 5 eggsBest in show

Pros: Excellent computer. Does everything one could want from a computer of this class superbly for a great price. Fast, loud and easy to use.

Cons: Battery life isn't wonderful, but that's what you get from a power hog. The power transformer is the size and weight of small computer alone. Vista isn't the best, but this computer handles it well.

Other Thoughts: If you are thinking about it, get it.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for the price

Pros: This has good graphics and sound, and will play any game out there so far. DX10 compatible. Plenty of hard drive space, and memory for a laptop.

Cons: Toshiba support is lousy, and no support for xp. Xp can be installed though. Just try a search, I would explain how if I was allowed. There is also room for one more hard drive, but the connections removed. Another thing, if you have dry skin the fingerprint reader won't work to good.

Other Thoughts: Dual boot with xp pro, and vista home premium. Upgraded to the T9300 cpu. Never had any problems with it.

3 out of 5 eggsUnbelivable

Pros: Nicely built and solid construction. Well thought out machine. It has all the ports and connectors you'll need.

Cons: I've had the machine for two days and I have to say that I didn't get that WOW factor with the speakers. In fact they don't play at a high volume as I expected. I've tried various cd music, dvd movies and I am not impressed at all. I even updated the drivers and stil poor sound performance.
VERY DISAPPOINTING. The graphics aren't that great either.

Other Thoughts: I have a Gateway Lap M6705 and its speakers have the same quality as my new Tosihba. Newegg has not been of any help and Tosihba hasn't either. Maybe, my machine is defective?
Don't buy this machine.

5 out of 5 eggsI love this thing!

Pros: Light(er) thank my old, bulky Clevo D900K DTR Laptop. Intel Core 2 mobile is a quicker sucker, even at 1.83GHz. Having a dedicated 8700M GT 512MB is a huge plus. HMDI, Firewire, 6 USB ports, Webcam, and biometric finger reader! I love the stylish gloss design for the top/monitor. I consider this a decent DTR laptop, and well priced too!

Cons: Vista, yeah I know... but I have to get used to it better now than later. 1 Hard drive!!! It seems there is room for another hard drive in the Wifi bay, but they ripped the SATA/Power Connector off the board (even has the pins/points for a SATA/Power hookup). Power brick is huge, but slightly smaller than the D900K's brick.

Other Thoughts: I really love this laptop and I am glad I picked this to replace my dead D900K (RIP or maybe I can revive it). It is definitely a lot light than the D900K which is less stress on my shoulder and back when carrying it around in my laptop bag. I replaced Home Premium w/ Vista Business because I need the extra administrative functions (for work). The app compatibility needs work though (for Vista), XP can be put non here, but finding the right/working video card driver is quite an adventure.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Rig!

Pros: Solid build, beautiful bright screen, nice "out of box" experience, snappy performance, very decent graphics card for the money, very attractive, nice case design, comes with recovery discs(!), great performance w/Vista. Tons of ports and connections.

Best speakers and audio I've ever heard from a notebook - incredible quality, clarity and presence. Simply amazing. Incredible at this price point.

Cons: vertical viewing angles limited (very common w/all laptops), bloatware, dual-mode touchpad only works if 'tapping' enabled, large power brick (but w/this card and screen size, understandable), big and heavy (but this is really a DTR not a portable), all ports on sides can be good and bad

Other Thoughts: Wow! This is one beautiful rig! It looks like a 2-4k system. The 8700M GT is a decent card and will run well at 1440x900 (it falls of at higher resolutions) so well matched here. Very nice setup, no problems at all, everything went very smoothly. Very snappy Vista performance. This is my first Vista unit and it's not bad at all, much better than I expected (I prefer XP usually).

The audio on this notebook will knock your socks off as will the beautiful 17" screen. When I loaded up WinAmp to check out the speakers, the sound quality was awesome. Then I turned on full screen visuals and was blown away. I actually spent the next 10-15 minutes just listening and watching - it was that good.

Haven't had time to try out my games yet, but most games run well by all accounts. All in all I am very well pleased with this system. A super rig for the price asked. Everything feels solid and well built. Lots of nice little unique features. Some genuinely helpful Toshiba software.

5 out of 5 eggsA must have

Pros: Bottom line... the best for your money. if you like a big 17in crazy laptop thats fast and smooth. this is the way to go. everything is very sturdy and sstrong.. easy to use too.

the video card is very good also.. plays counterstrike source great! hard drive is nice and big, and 2g of ram stock is great.

Cons: around 10 pounds? ehh. dont be a weakling.
toshiba programs.. if ur smart u kno wat u dont need and wat u should keep.
battery charger is a tad bigger than i expeected but hey, this thing is a monster.

Other Thoughts: vista. u'll grow to like it.
the fingerprint thing is cool too, no one can get in my laptop.

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice buy

Pros: Video: 8700Gt is great. With some adjustment, World of Warcraft runs at its 60fps limiter. Definitely heats up when running full throttle but 4 fans dissipate it fairly well.

Sound: Loudest and best quality speaker system I've owned in a laptop. When on the highway with car noise you can still watch a movie without headphones.

Screen: Very bright, good quality.

Cons: The screen dimmer doesn't go that dim, probably a lower min setting would be better.

A lot of bloatware come installed. Took me an hour to uninstall all the junk.

Other Thoughts: Pretty heavy, at 10 lbs, but that's to be expected given its purpose.
