5 out of 5 eggsAwesome once you got it to work

Pros: Freakin fast and quiet. Excellent as OS drive once I got the right driver.

Cons: Slow installation of apps to this drive as most of you all know due to inherent slow write speed. I had to go through the OCZ support forum to read user's tip to get this working to it's expected speed. It took me couple of tries (days and nights) to get things right.

Other Thoughts: I had the first drive installed as an OS and took me couple of Vista x64 installations to get it right. When I bought the 2nd drive, I decided to put it in RAID 0 using ICH10 from mobo and of course reinstall the OS. It worked as I would like. The first recommendation I can give to all is to add the driver for Intel Storage Manager before the Vista installation. I also disabled the following: prefetch, superfetch, hibernation, page file (have 8GB RAM), defrag, 8.3 filename support, Windows and drive indexing and search, storing browser caches to another drive (will put this to ramdrive soon), redirected my download folder to my regular HD.

Motherboard: Asus Maximus II Formula
CPU: Intel e8600 3.3GHz (o'c to 4.3GHz)
RAM: G.Skillz 4x2GB 8500
Video: nVidia 7900 GTO

4 out of 5 eggsoverall good

Pros: cool, quiet,fast

Cons: freeze seconds sometimes

Other Thoughts: This is not as bad as others review. I installed smoothly, but when I tried to restore my system using paragon partition manager, transfer rate is so slow, I had to reinstalled the whole system and programs. I think the problem is that drive controller is incompatible with the motherboard, or this drive lack DRAM(cache). the recent intel's X-25M which used DRAM, it seems the speed is very high and has no such problem. It's worth buying, when I bought it at very low price($100 after rebate).

5 out of 5 eggsIf you american, don't buy it

Pros: Quick random read, decent concurrent read ( 80-120MB ).
Non fragmented read can reach 300MB

Cons: Slow non fragmented write, average random write almost 1:1 to platter based 7200rpm drive

Other Thoughts: If you can't figure out how to configure this device for its pro's and avoid its cons, then don't buy it. Don't complain because you don't know how to use your computer very well.

Create a ramdisk and dump virtual memory and other apps swap on their. Don't disable virtual memory.

2 out of 5 eggsDoesn't work with Thinkpad T61p

Pros: Native mini-usb port.

Cons: Doesn't work as the primary disk on my Thinkpad T61, even with latest BIOS, and AHCI disabled. "Error 2100" on booting.

Other Thoughts: Great deal! I really wish it worked for me.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, we are sorry for the problem. The mini USB port is for firmware updates only, and cannot be used to connect the drive. If you have any questions, please visit our support forums at the link below. We will gladly help you with installation and troubleshooting.
Thank you

Cons: I bought it at $254.00 a week ago, now its at $169.00 Wisky Tango Foxtrot NEWEGG????

4 out of 5 eggswatch out for write performance

Pros: READ speed is freaking nuts. A fresh install of windows loads up in less then 30 seconds on my Dell Vostro 410 (Intel Q9300 CPU, 3GB ram). This drive even tames the inherent Windows slowdown associated with installing .... AOL.

Cons: Write speed - pretty much like everyone else. The whole system appears unresponsive while writing data to the drive, which depending on what you're doing may be 2- 10 second long pauses.

Other Thoughts: Remove the pagefile, provided you have sufficient ram, as that kills windows from constantly writing to the drive. Installing programs takes longer then usual, due to the aforementioned CON, BUT once the installation is done - this thing screams upon program startup. Still, I'd wait for the SLC drives to come down in price before purchasing another SSD.

2 out of 5 eggsResponse to OCZ's response

Pros: n/a

Cons: n/a

Other Thoughts: You guys are giving the same response to everyone and I looked at your forum, there is no useful information there. I do NOT care if couple mainboards are working with this SuperSlowDrive, because I am NOT going to change my mainboard. I have NEVER heard anyone changing their mainboard for a drive.

Yes the drive is fast, it reads 100MB/second, and then waits for 10 seconds. Oh yeah, your average is know <10MB/sec. What a performance! I think I could do better with my 300$!

And you know what is worse, lots of people bought this drive from you guys and now you have a second version and it is even cheaper. Just FYI, this doesn't make the people who bought first very happy. It is like a punishment.

5 out of 5 eggsWAVE OF THE FUTURE!

Pros: Have only had this little gem for a few weeks, but have had lots of fun putting it through its paces.

It performs flawlessly and fast with Vista and Gigabyte MA78GM-S2H MB!

Its size and almost zero weight allow for any kind of mounting, even dangling from the drive cables. (LOL)

Just for fun, I hooked it to my 4 year old
Asus K8N-E Deluxe machine and Vista came up fine, although to have used it properly would have required a few driver updates.

Graphics and copying programs appear to run flawlessly and fast.
However, my usage cannot be termed, intensive.

Cons: NONE!

Other Thoughts: All I can add is, companies like Western Digital should quickly embrace this new technology before OCZ and their contemporaries leave them floating in the wind!

With prices further reduced by liberal rebate offers, now is a good time to put yourself on the leading edge of the latest technology!

2 out of 5 eggsBe careful

Pros: If it works, it is fast. But that if is killing everything.

Cons: This drive is totally useless unless you want to spend hundreds of dollars to change your mainboard (and maybe ram and cpu) with the ones that this drive works.. would you do that?

Using this drive even in daily basis is just pain.. Computer freezes every often for 5-10seconds.

Other Thoughts: Look at the situation:

1- ocz designs this drive, and somehow is not aware of the problem (there must be no testing at all to not see this issue)
2- sells the product without the option of returning
3- provides support forums where all you can see is their support people telling you that they are able to run the drive with certain chipsets/motherboards.

PEOPLE, CHANGING MAINBOARD FOR A DRIVE IS UNSEEN!

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: SSD's are fancy

Cons: Drive is basically a $280 paper weight. I suppose you could use it to keep your music on or something like that but it is a garbage system drive. The system will grind to a halt if anything writes to the disk. And the data corruption issues some of you may have heard about make it necessary for me to reinstall the OS every week or so.

Other Thoughts: I immediately had problems with this disk. I RMA'd my first one and the new one has the exact same issues. There is faulty technology involved in the construction of this disk. Either OCZ should recall this defective product or we should be able to exchange them for a full refund. And I have spent plenty of time watching the OCZ forum to keep abreast of what's happening with these disks and it doesn't look good. It seems pretty definitive now that in many situations these disks are slower than the slowest drive you can buy from Newegg.
