Polk's Monitor Series has been the gold standard of speakers since the 1970's. This current generation features clear, accurate sound with strong bass and exception aural imaging. Polk made the enclosures out of MDF to be of a uniform density and not resonate. They've also included ¾" thick baffles to help produce clear lifelike sound.
The two 5.25" cones are made from a bi-laminate composite for an optimal balance of weight and rigidity. The small driver delivers a wide open sound and exceptional responsiveness. The 1" tweeter is a fabric/polymer composite the responds swiftly to the high efficiency Neodymium magnet. The crossovers between the drivers use Mylar bypass capacitors to let all of the details in the higher frequencies shine through.
No matter how good they sound, they have to look good too. Their contemporary look complements today's flat panel televisions and modern decorating styles.
Pros: These speakers are very bright, punchy base but not like a subwoofer.
Cons: size a little to big, but that's about it. i recomend useing a sub if you dont have one.

Hard to beat these for the price!

Pros: Price and performance. Large sound from a *relatively* small speaker. Handles lots of power if hooked to powerful amp yet runs good on low power as well. GREAT speakers when bi-wired.
Cons: These are pretty bad IF not bi-wired. Those that don't believe bi-wiring does anything, I won't debate but on these speakers is DOES make a very big difference. Speakers are very large for "bookshelf" speakers so make sure to check your measurements and have space for them. No real wood used and cheap innards, but not surprising for the price. No bass, at all. Must be run with a sub to sound respectable.
Other Thoughts: These MUST be bi-wired to sound good. The difference really is night and day and these are the only speakers I've every truly noticed a difference when wired that way. For comparison, my JBL E100s (and E80s in the past) didn't make much of a difference. System is hooked to my PC - Auzentech Prelude soundcard, old Yamaha HTR-5840 receiver, four of these M40s (2 front/2 rear) a JBL LC1 center, SVS PC sub. System is total overkill for my "office".lol

Pros: Hard to find ANY bookshelf speakers better than these at any price. For medium sized rooms these are UNBEATABLE. My system is TX-SR706, 40's front, CS-1 center, 30's in the rear using 5.1 as room is not large enough to benefit from 7.1 - approx. 15'x24'. All 14ga wiring. Subwoofer is AIWA 100w. Subwoofer is needed because the 40's and CS-1 were never designed to give anything more than pure, clean, crisp highs and rich, throatly mids. Read the reviews carefully - many of those not '5' eggs are do to problems with UPS. Please note that to NEWEGG's credit the client is protected in ALL these cases - even with the BULK ITEM policies!
Cons: NONE! Absolutely NONE.......!!

Pros: These are real full sounding bookshelf speakers. Full range. Clear highs and lows. Mid-range is not lacking either. Work great in my studio. Also use them as my rear speakers in my home theater. They can be dual amped for better sound quality.
Cons: Price. We all would like something great for free. Actually the price is right from newegg. I tried to beat it and could not when I ordered.
Other Thoughts: These would be great for a college room or store back ground sound. Ok, I love these speakers for medium to small jobs.
Multiple small-diameter driver design delivers wide dispersion, better mid-range, and more detailed bass response for an open, "box-less," three-dimensional sound.
Non-resonant all-MDF enclosure construction with ¾-inch-thick baffles ensures cleaner, clearer, more lifelike sound quality. (Tower models feature additional front–to-back and side-to-side internal bracing for further reduced resonance.)
Crossovers use Mylar bypass capacitors for more detailed high frequencies.
Magnetically shielded for safe placement on or near TVs and video monitors with no risk of video distortion.
Crossover: 2.3kHz, second order high and low pass
Enclosure Type: Vented via rear panel flared port
