Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: Great picture Drops to 48hz to display 24p material (undocumented bonus) Plenty of inputs Swivel stand Real Samsung Panel (all 52" Samsung TV's only have Samsung panels this year.)
Cons: Speakers not so great contrast drops as off angle viewing increases
Other Thoughts: A poster above stated in Aug 2009 that their tv broke after 1 year. Since the LN52B550 came out in April of 2009, they must be complaining about a different tv.
This is a 60hz tv with none of the fancy internet widgets or 120/240 hz processing that other sets have. What it does have is a *real* Samsung panel (not cmo or au) and great picture quality. In the service menu of the set, there is a setting that seems to imply that the set drops to 48hz when a 24p signal set is detected. This means that the set does not need to do a 3:2 pull down like other 60hz tv's.
I used HFCR and a Spyder2 to calibrate the set using the user and service menus. The results have been fantastic, with excellent gray scale tracking, and colors close to reference targets.

Breathtaking!

Pros: Incredible picture, swivel stand, plenty of inputs, beautiful set, reliable, very user friendly, etc. Great for playing the high def xbox 360/PS3 games, or watching the big game! Lots of good things, that keep Samsung in those top ranks!!! Works amazingly as my television, for playing games, viewing movies/Blu-Rays, and as my computer monitor!
Cons: No Composite (Audio/Video, or as some people like to call them RCA) ports in the back?!? Samsung makes up for this though, by allowing the Component (5 color) inputs to double as Composite. A little inconvenient, but at least it is still an option. Other then that, very small "flaw", I have absolutely NO problems!!! Actually debated buying a second, and using them as dual monitors!!! = )
Other Thoughts: To the reviewer claiming "Avoid Samsung"... you are foolish! There is a reason that Samsung TVs are so high rated!! When I bought my Samsung it was Consumer Reports 2nd 52" only behind a Mitsubishi set that was going for 112% MORE then I payed for the Samsung!!! I work, selling Television sets (and other electronics) and I would go nowhere else! Samsung will send someone straight to your house in all 48 Continental states! allow you to send it in for repairs, or replacement if the damage/problem is severe! A company that makes a top class television, that will bend over backwards for the customers sounds like a great company to me! Sony sells their name!..... You say spend the couple extra dollars to get the "better" Sony?!? Why buy the name? The TV from Sony is physically lower rated, and (just as you stated) MORE money! Buy the better set, save the money, and when something goes wrong (in the off chance that it does) you don't have to send it to Japan for repair! Thnx Samsun

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Beautiful picture, no dead pixels, looks nice, tuner pulls in all of my local stations perfectly.
Cons: Sound, but with the small speakers inside these LCD tvs the sound is always marginal, tinny (I hooked up my Boston Accoustics TVEE soundbar and now am happy).
Other Thoughts: Arrived in 2 days in flawless condition. Thanks Newegg. This tv attracts dust really badly, have to dust it every single day, lol. But overall, I simply love this beautiful television.

Get A Surge Protector
Reviewed By: Righteous on 1/30/2010

Pros: Bought this for a friend. We watched movies on his upscaled HD player and this 60Hz model. Awesome! Sharp, crisp, do the search anywhere and you get the same results every time, almost (96% or higher?) everyone has had really good experiences. The display is what you would expect on a more expensive display.
Cons: The only con I have is with the person below who had an individual bad experience. Sounds like the guy didnt buy a surge protector and he is getting some bad mojo through his power lines. Don't even think about reviewing with one egg unless it warrants such a bad response. People like that make me roll my eyes. Samsung is doing what they can to help the guy are they not?
Other Thoughts: Looked at the 120 Hz. Well, I am not fully convinced that the 120 Hz and above are worth the extra cash. Now, if you are playing console games such as XBox, Playstation, Wii etc. ALL the time and watch ALOT of high speed sports in HD, maybe, just maybe then it may be an option. You may want to look at a comparison though. Do the research about 60, 120 and 240 Hz, the hype and the responses. For normal 60Hz standard television, HD channels, upscaled DVD players and Blu Ray players you will be Ace with the 60 Hz. You will come to your conclusion if it is worth it or not. Also, I just bought one (60 Hz model) for myself so I will come back later to repost my personal findings.

Piece of Junk
Reviewed By: David on 1/29/2010
Tech Level: average - Ownership: more than 1 year
Pros: Fantastic picture when it works.
Cons: I've had 3 different problems with this TV since October 2009 (wouldn't power on, powers off and back on randomly by itself, big green bar down the right side of the screen). I've had the IP board, 2 power boards, the main PCB assembly, the LVDS cable, and 2 main boards replace, along with a firmware upgrade. It is STILL not repaired and Samsung will not replace the TV. Now they want to replace the screen. Obviously I have a lemon and Samsung won't replace it. So my only advice to you is this -- hope you get a good one, because if you don't, you're in for much frustration.
