This review is from: Bose 301 Series V Direct/Reflecting Speaker System
Pros: Passable mid-range, decent amount of bass. Does get pretty loud.
Cons: While these do have a decent amount of bass, the bass is very muddy and uncontrolled. The mid-range isn't as defined as other speaker in it's price range. The woofer is much too large to accurately reproduce mid-range and strains it's self pulling double duty.
The cone tweeters aren't as detailed or accurate as soft dome tweeters. They are too large to reproduce detailed and accurate highs. I find that the tweeter and woofer does not work well together. It sounds like their is a large frequency gap between the two.
The build quality leaves a lot to be desired. The exposed particle board and cheap looking vinyl finish turned me off. I opened up the speakers only to further disappoint myself. Cheapest looking woofer and tweeters I have ever come across. The crossover couldn't have cost more then two dollars to produce.
Other Thoughts: While these can get pretty loud, it just doesn't fit my style of listening. Which is accuracy, wide sound stage, defined and controlled bass.
I returned these when I A/B/C them with a set of NHT classic three and Paradigm Studio 20.
