Looks good

SNT SNT-BPSS101ATL 1 x 5.25" Bay to 1 x 3.5" Hotswap SATA/SAS HDD 6.0 Gbps Tray-Less backplane
SNT SNT-BPSS101ATL 1 x 5.25" Bay to 1 x 3.5" Hotswap SATA/SAS HDD 6.0 Gbps Tray-Less backplane

Pros: It works as expected

Cons: None so far

Overall Review: I bought this to replace a Vantec EZ-Swap2 trayless device that failed after 4 months. That device has an arm that pushes the drive in and pulls the drive out. The arm pivots by means of a small plastic connector. The connector in my unit broke and I had to take the device apart to retrieve my drive, voiding the Vantec warranty. This SNT unit works differently. It depends on a plastic element in a different way, but that element is much larger and I expect that it won't break.

DOES NOT support Lightscribe

LG USB 2.0 External Super Multi DVD Rewriter with M-DISC Support Model GE24NU40
LG USB 2.0 External Super Multi DVD Rewriter with M-DISC Support Model GE24NU40

Pros: Reads and writes properly as a plug and play device on a Windows 8 computer.

Cons: Does not support Lightscribe. I was able to install part of the software that was on the CD that came with the drive onto a Windows 7 computer. It allowed me to configure the CD/DVD drive that was connected (the LG external drive being reviewed). It searched and indicated that no Lightscribe drive was found. I also have a much older (2007) version of the "same" drive. Some time ago, I used it as a Lightscribe drive. I tested it in the same way and the software immediately recognized it as a Lightscribe drive.

Overall Review: Some of the software that came with it is recognized by Windows 7 but apparently is not recognized by Windows 8. However, the specs. are proper in that they don't indicate that the drive is compatible with W8.
