4 out of 5 eggs Overclocker's Please read before purchase. 10/24/2013

This review is from: MSI 990FXA-GD80 V2 AM3+ AMD 990FX + SB950 6 x SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: -Looks nice in my Case.
-Reads my memory and automatically sets timings and speed if XMP profile is enabled in bios. (I am using 2133mhz corsaid dominator platinum)

Cons: -Can not increase cpu voltage in BIOS beyond 1.44v this drasticly limits how far you can push your CPU, read other thoughts on a work around for this.
-First board I got was broken and I had to do a RMA.

Other Thoughts: While I personally prefer overclocking in the bios you cannot do much in terms of overclocking in the bios with this board. There is however a way around this voltage lock. The only way to increase the voltage of various voltages is via an MSI Utility program that you must install called "CLICK BIOS II" this program works in conjunction with the MSI Utility program called "Control Center" so be sure to have both of them installed. You will set your overclock settings in windows using CLICK BIOS II and once set and system is restarted, it will set these settings during post before windows loads everytime you start your computer. You only have to set the settings you want one time and then forget about them. You DO NOT have to set them every time your system boots as I had read in a comment from another user.

I hope MSI removes the voltage lock they implemented after bios version 11.5 in the future but for now I have the overclock that I was looking for. If you are a hardcore overclocker, I would suggest another brand that starts with AS. However, that said. This board will overclock an FX8350 to 5ghz and beyond, given you have liquid cooling. Justthe way you have to do so, via windows, is not how most of us choose to do so. I hope this helps in anyone choosing to purchase this board.

Pros: Looks sexy in my Thermaltake Chaser-MK1 case with Corsair H100i water cooler/with 2 120mm GLEID green led fans and 16gb Corsair Dominator Patinum ram.

Cons: This motherboard acted very strange, It would load windows but fail on all updates. It would randomly lock up during boot up flashing 19 and FF on the diagnostics. I tried 3 different kinds of memory and 2 processors. It eventually refused to pass POST during the first day of installation. I installed my old ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 motherboard and everything works fine. I contacted Newegg about the troubles and they were very helpful in expiditingthe RMA process. Newegg sent me a free return shipping label and they have just received my defective MSI board today and have begun packaging my replacement.

I REALLY hope the replacement one works as good as some of the 5 star reviews in here because I usually use MSI boards and I like the design of this particular motherboard. /crossing fingers. Newegg made the return process hassle free and that is why I continue to buy from them. I know that manufacturing processes are never 100% and that shipping can sometimes hurt electronics the way the shippers handle things. At any rate, I am looking forward to the replacement so that I can post an excellent review!

This review is from: CORSAIR XMS 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMX8GX3M1A1600C11

Pros: Hmmm other than the computer booting that is about it.

Cons: I do no like the timings on this memory and am only using it because it was part of a bundle I had purchased. The timings are too high and is not for overclocking or gaming. I will be replacing it with better memory when I can afford to.
