Does the job
Pros: *Low cost way to secure an additional 3.5" drive. *Screw holes for attaching to case lined up great. *Bezel lines up/looks good in case, although not an issue for me as I have a case I've reused several times that is about a million years old
Cons: *Could only get one set of screws to line up for attaching to HD(either one pair on sides or bottom, but not both); really not a big deal unless maybe there is an earthquake :)
Overall Review: *Using with a 1TB Samsung Spinpoint HD103SJ
Got a dud, I think
Pros: 2 choices of power connections is interesting, although why would you have an SATA connection and not SATA power?
Cons: Was a rattling noise inside when I unpacked it like a screw rolling around inside of it; tried to install anyway and couldn't be formatted, made weird noise when trying to spin.
Overall Review: Maybe just a packaging/handling issue; still gave it 2 stars since I have always used WD and never had any problems - will replace it with another.
Very nice
Pros: Plays HD video very nicely through onboard graphics. Paired with an MSI A 55 P33 with 4G RAM. Seems great for price.
Cons: It wasn't free.
Overall Review: I have always built with AMD, and this will only reinforce that practice.
So far so good
Pros: Running XP Pro paired with a WD black HD, 4Gb RAM, 2.5 GHz AMD APU, it's booting up and ready to roll in just over 30 seconds. Plays HD video nicely with onboard graphics. Lots of BIOS options
Cons: Couldn't get audio driver to install from disk - had to DL from MSI website, but it is fine now. There is still a generic "Audio Device" showing up in device manager as an exclamation, but audio is working fine.
Overall Review: Seems pretty hard to beat for the price.
Works great
Pros: I used it to add an internal IDE LightScribe drive I had laying around as an external, so I could copy/burn and Scribe all at the same time. No setup; detects as mass storage then automatically recognized as optical drive by XP.
Cons: The usb and power cables could be 10' long I guess... :)
Does the job
Pros: Saves buying a new MB if you want to add a newer SATA HD. Includes a decent length SATA cable. Lots of ports for the $
Cons: As others mentioned, there are no clear instructions(or, really, any instructions).
Overall Review: Installation isn't really that bad. You need to install the VIA RAID software(in the VT6421 folder, as other user mentioned) even if you aren't using the drive as part of a RAID array so that the controller works. Just format your HDD using Windows Disk Manager and you should be ready to go. For the price, what else can you expect?
