Rosewill RCR-IM5001 USB2.0 75 in 1 internal Card Reader w/ 3 ports USB2.0 Hub / eSATA port / Extra silver face plate / Molex Power
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: Came with silver faceplate.

Cons: I purchased 2 of these several months ago while on sale. A customer needed a card reader so I installed the first one.
CARD READER 1 - Everything booted up fine and windows found it ok but as soon as I plugged an sd card in, nothing. I unplugged the card and plugged it back in, still nothing. Tried another sd card with data on it, windows found the drive but then it disconnected immediately. I jiggled the card a little and it would connect but then disconnect immediately. I pulled the card out and rebooted the PC. With the card out it now connects and disconnects all on it's own with nothing plugged into and after a reboot it totally locked the system during post. Disconnected it from the usb header and system is fine, tried another usb header same thing, just locks up the PC.
CARD READER 2 - I decided to open up the other one I had in stock and installed it outside the case to test. It worked ok but as soon as I opened the drive to move files over it would disconnect again. tried several sd card and same thing.

Other Thoughts: I usually purchase several card readers when they are on sale to keep in stock so they tend to sit around on my shelf for a few months before using. I have always had great luck with the other Rosewill card readers I've purchased but this particular model is a failure and I don't recommend it at all. Just comparing the 5 egg to the 1 egg reviews proves that this item has a definite quality control problem, good luck getting an operational one. Mine are going in the trash.

Bitdefender Total Security 2014 - Value Edition - 3 PCs / 2 Years
  • Owned For: 1 month to 1 year

1 out of 5 eggs Acts like beta software, useless tech support. 04/30/2014

This review is from: Bitdefender Total Security 2014 - Value Edition - 3 PCs / 2 Years

Pros: Inexpensive when on sale every couple weeks. They have a great uninstall tool even though it takes forever to complete. Always remember to use an antivirus' uninstall tool before installing a new antivirus solution.

Cons: I purchased several licenses and initial testing went well with some speed bumps, such as Ccleaner locking up the machine when set for secure deletion of temp files. Just add Ccleaner to the exceptions list in bitdefender and it will work fine.
When I started putting it on customers' PC's is when I began to see that 3 out of 4 machines began experiencing all sorts of weird problems from slowing to a crawl, locking up programs, blocking FTP access, and on one the inability to print pdf files from IE10. It seemed that no 2 problems were the same except that removing bitdefender fixed them all. Some problems were intermittant making it more difficult to pin on bitdefender, until bitdefender was removed. Bitdefender support tried to help, but all they did was have myself, and my customers that contacted them directly, turn off the firewall and other protection modules included with the package. Why purchase an antivirus suite if you have to turn off everything besides the antivirus and make exceptions within the antivirus for every other program on the PC?
This is the same for new builds and older machines, of course using the currently installed antivirus uninstall tool and making sure the PC is clean of viruses and malware for older machines before installing bitdefender.

Other Thoughts: In my 32 years in IT I've never seen a beta of any software with this many problems, much less something being sold to the public as a solution. When I clean an old machine without antivirus or sell a new machine, I want to install an antivirus solution and get it back to the customer, not spend several hours configuring it to work with whatever programs might fight it and pray that I got them all. Do yourself a favor and just pick up one of the readily available free antivirus solutions available, because this is not even worth it if it was free. I took it off all PC's I had it on and destroyed all my install keys so no one else could be harmed by this buggy software.
