SUPERMICRO MBD-H8SGL-O ATX Server Motherboard Socket G34 AMD SR5650 DDR3 1600/1333/1066
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: more than 1 year

Pros: The only pros I really see are the amount of memory it can hold and the type. DDR3 is definitely worth the price. It also has a lot of power plugs for internal fans. That was very handy when I was running 12 HDD's and a 12 Core processor.

Cons: Let me start by listing them all:
1- Came with 1 out of the 2 LAN ports broken (Would find an IP and then lose it a few seconds later)
2- Motherboard MUST go through its boot up cycle twice with a RAID card installed (horrible design flaw)
3- It only works with a very select number of processors
4- The mobo buzzer doesn't help in anyway in telling the user what is wrong when something is. Its just a long piercing tone that doesn't shut up unless you reboot the machine.

Sadly I am not the only one that has has this problem with this board. I have had it now for 2 years...and just a couple days ago, I rebooted the machine, and it now won't even post.

Another con is there return policy. Even though they have one, its mountains of paperwork to only (MAYBE) get a refurbished one weeks later. Well I need a new mobo now, not in a couple weeks.

If you are thinking of getting this board, I highly suggest you DON'T. I am very angry at myself for getting it and now I can either wait a couple weeks and get a refurbished one or go and spend another $230 on a new one. Sadly the new one is sounding better...

Other Thoughts: Other than the cons I mentioned, the board worked for the 2 years I have owned it. I just wish the cons would be fixed. A motherboard shouldn't be such a hassle!

SUPERMICRO MBD-H8SGL-O ATX Server Motherboard Socket G34 AMD SR5650 DDR3 1600/1333/1066

Pros: I like the fact that it supports my 12 core AMD processor and a bunch of memory! Good solid connections in the back

Cons: It has an annoying buzzer on the mobo that doesn't ever tell you what is wrong. Its just a screeching noise when I am copying data from my RAID array to another drive. Another annoying thing is that it takes a long time to boot up. It has to go through the boot up process twice. I have set it back to default settings to see if that would change anything, but no.
Mine came with 1of 2 ethernet ports broken. (Would find an IP and then lose it a few seconds later) I would have returned it but everything was set up and I had extra ethernet cards available to use.

Other Thoughts: Dont buy this product unless you have the specific AMD processor that I do. The motherboard can barely run the most up to date Operating Systems so there is no real reason to get it if you want to run, say: Ubuntu 12 or earlier, any of the other linux OS's or Windows Home Server, or VMware ESXi. NONE of those will run on it. Seems to be a waste of a board if you ask me! I wish I knew that before I bought it.
