Bang for the Buck

Synology DS112 Diskless System Feature-rich 1-bay NAS Server for Small Business & Workgroups
Synology DS112 Diskless System Feature-rich 1-bay NAS Server for Small Business & Workgroups

Pros: I'm new to NAS. This product rocks! It's feature packed and has a great user interface! Silent and runs very cool. Very good transfer rates. Solid, no down time since installing beside manual restarts. Active and friendly support forum.

Cons: None

Overall Review: I purchased a WD My Book Live 3TB due to the cost point. After trying to get the transfer rates out of the KB range, I gave up and returned it. Took hours to delete a 300mb file that was on it's own hd. Decided to spend a little more money and purchased this and a WD 2TB Red HD. Total cost around $350. Money well spent! Only issue I had was that Bitdefender's firewall blocked the initial setup.

2 DOA

XFX Radeon HD 5870 (Cypress XT) 1GB DDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 CrossFireX Support Graphics Card HD-587X-ZNFV

Pros: I was able to get Tech Support on the phone without too much delay. I was happy with the service they provided. I was happy with the service Egg gave me on RMA'ing this ..... board and the quick shipment of the replacement.

Cons: 1'st board had a bad DisplayPort 2'nd board had a bad DVI XFX email support was slow in responding.

Overall Review: This was my first attempt going with XFX. I have a Sapphire 5850 which runs like a champ. I am now going to wait on a ASUS 5970. Never had a ASUS either. Hope it works better then the XFX. If not, I am going back to Sapphire.

ASROCK~~~ Rocks...

ASRock Z68 Extreme7 Gen3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
ASRock Z68 Extreme7 Gen3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Appeasing appearance and logistical layout. Nice supporting documentation. Retail packing very nicely done to include a very nice accessory package. Plenty of SATA and PCIE along with a little future proofing with the support of the PCIE 3 once the processor is released from Intel. Install was very quick thanks to the clear labeling on the board. Taking advice I found online, I downloaded all the current drivers from AsRock prior to the board’s arrival. After installing all the drivers and a few reboots I had what appears to be a stable system. I went about my daily work with it, giving it a day or two before I decided to run it through some stability programs. After a day of running full throttle and no crashes of any kind I deemed it stable.

Cons: Not a DOA...

Overall Review: Most important to me, I don’t get a DOA board. My last two boards for this chipset have been DOA’s… First my Asus P8Z68V Pro, which took three boards to get one that worked. Then last week I decided to install another board. This time I selected the EVGA Z68 160-SB-E689-K2 over this board after reading all the negative reviews. Well the EVGA board showed up DOA… Put it in the mail and took the plunge on this board. I prepared myself to have another DOA on my hand. I was shocked that not only did it boot on the first try that I was able to get to the operating system without a hitch. As of this writing, all is great. Being a complicated piece of electronics we all know this can change at any time. I am very happy and satisfied with my purchase! Thank you AsRock for this splendid piece of electronic art!

EVGA Z68 FTW 160-SB-E689-K2 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Extended ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Not many...

Cons: When I pressed the start button, the fans and LED's started for a split second. Went on like this for a number of tries until it would finally start. Like an old car... Never seen it before on any MB. I have twin HD 6850 cards crossed fired. All hardware worked great before putting them on this board. After an hour the MB "lost" the primary slot. Third issue, I am running Corsair H100. It ran hot with this MB in the 35-40c range on idle. On my old MB, it running 20-22c. In fact as I type this, it's 21c. I didn't purchase from the egg but I am returning it to the jungle for another MB. Paid for the extra Tech support which I won't need after all... Tech support and i worked various angles with no success. I was told to RMA it which won't get started until mid next week. The jungle will send me a new board by Tuesday. Better deal... No more EVGA for me.

Overall Review: I had high hopes for the board. It's my first EVGA MB. Currently running an Asus P8Z68-V PRO and wanted to try another board.

#1 DOA

ASUS P8Z68-V PRO LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

Pros: Nice specs. Easy to return for another mfg's board.

Cons: DOA... Memory LED light on... MemOK didn't help. Memory came out of my Rampage III which had no issues at all.

Overall Review: Asus tech support? hehehe... Should have learn my lesson from past dealings...
