Pros: Roomy, Runs cool, Fits almost any laptop, Hitachi reliablity
Cons: A bit loud in the Aluminum MBP compared to Seagate 5400.6
Other Thoughts: I chose this drive over the WD Blue and the Seagate 5400.6 due to overall better power consumption and the fact that it returned average benchmarks instead of returning extremely good or bad mixed results.
It's fairly quick but compared to my year old 500 gig Seagate 5400.6 in my old polycarbonate Macbook it is noticeably noisier. Of course this could be due to the aluminum construction of the laptop itself. If you are moving to this drive from a 2-3 year old drive though you will most definitely find it quieter!
It excelles in running cool though. My Seagate 5400.6 could get very hot if any disk intensive application were running but this Hitachi stays much cooler even though Aluminum skin of the Macbook Pro is better in transferring heat which leads me to believe it would "feel" even cooler if run in a polycarbonate Macbook case.
Excellent choice for most applications.
This review is from: HAMMER Morespace 1TB USB 2.0 3.5" External Hard Drive by Bell Micro HU1100-1000
Pros: Silent, High-performance 7200 RPM Hitachi HDT721010SLA360 drive inside, Small/light power adapter
Cons: USB 2.0 only, no eSata or Firewire 800 (not really a con but just saying...)
Other Thoughts: At the heart of the unit I got was the Hitachi HDT721010SLA360 drive which is one of the most efficient 1 TB drives on the market. The desing is simple, yet very elegant. It sports a manual power up/down switch in the back and enough vent holes to keep the unit cool.
Overall excellent value for the money.
