ZOTAC GeForce GTX 970 4GB

3 out of 5 eggs Coil whine and fan noise is terrible but card performs adequately. 03/04/2016

This review is from: ZOTAC GeForce GTX 970 4GB

Pros: Performs the same as any other GTX 970 in this class. The card does not overheat and I have been using it for 2+ hours a day.

Cons: Coil whine is bad! I never knew what coil whine was until I bought this card. You will hear the fans. This is a very noisy card. It reminds me of cards 10 years ago where super-hot cards were cooled by an oversized fan system. If you don't want noise, don't buy this card. I'm forced to game with headphones on because without headphones at lower volumes, this card usurps my audio with the drone of the fan and that crackle sound of the coil whine.

Other Thoughts: I am a verified owner but I purchased it as part of the black Friday sale and Newegg listed it under a different item number for that day.

Pros: Small, and the design is nontraditional. The aluminum is fairly thick and looks nice.

Cons: Worst hard drive holder. The hard drive bracket where you can mount two SSDs is a total bust. They are mounted so far back on the metal plate that the lip of plate extends beyond the edge of the drive, which eliminates all but the most basic of SATA cables from plugging in. And as others have mentioned, forget trying to plug in cables with a 90 degree bend. But my straight ones with clips don't fit either. So my SSDs are dangling around in the case until I feel like taking an angle grinder to the bracket. I'm beyond the return period so I guess I could do that now.

My other complaint is that the screw holes to the side of the case do not align with the holes on the fascia. One of them was put in at an angle and pre-cross-threaded. Nice job RAIJINTEK! Instead of quality control rejecting it, they just make it fit as-is and ship it out.

Other Thoughts: This case is only average, and for the price and considering the poor machining, I do not recommend it to others.

Pros: No reviews yet on whether or not this works on the Haswell platform, but the answer is YES. I bought 2 of these kits for 32gb and it picked it up fine. I had to tell it to use the 1600 profile because it was auto detected as 1333, but there were no problems doing that.

Cons: No regrets! 32gb RAM is awesome

Other Thoughts: Haswell i5
ASRock H87M Pro 4
Samsung 840 pro SSD

WEI = 7.7 on Windows 7
