Black Mamba

AMD Phenom 9850 Black Edition - Phenom X4 Quad-Core 2.5 GHz Socket AM2+ 125W Processor - HD985ZXAGHBOX
AMD Phenom 9850 Black Edition - Phenom X4 Quad-Core 2.5 GHz Socket AM2+ 125W Processor - HD985ZXAGHBOX

Pros: quick, quad core, right price and overall monster in a black box. Computer started to become self aware after installing this chip, not sure if that is a con or a pro but either way it is rad!

Cons: warm even with my Kamacross cooler. Definately will be getting a heavier cooling set up like water, tec or beefy air coolers. Still doesn't subtract an egg.

Overall Review: This processor is amazing every thing opens runs and plays like the wind! I haven't even overclocked it yet but won't plan on that till I can get a better cooler. This works fine in my board G-byte 790X. All you need is to update your BIOS to the latest and you should have no problems with this cpu. Most the complaints I see on here are from folks complaining that it doesn't work with their motherboard. Most makers should have a BIOS out that will support the 9850. I even imagine that this will work on 770 sets and maybe the older 500 series Nvidia sets with the proper updates. Coming from a 6000+ I was amazed at the speed this cpu churned out.

Junk

ASUS M3A AM2+/AM2 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard
ASUS M3A AM2+/AM2 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: ASUS, inexpensive, came from the Nueve Huevo

Cons: This board is a mess. Even after getting latest drivers, setting the appropriate options in BIOS and following ASUS's tech support, which for the most part doesn't exist, I was unable to get the audio to work, even on a clean install of OS and every other gadget.

Overall Review: I reviewed this board earlier and still gave it credit, but now I don't. Once again I have RMA'ed to Newegg, which has great customer service so you get my praise. I'm not turned off from ASUS by any means, because even I know you get bad boards at time. Went with a G-byte board just got it this afternoon and will set it up later tonight.

Great Board But....

MSI MPG X570 GAMING PLUS Gaming Motherboard AMD AM4 SATA 6Gb/s M.2 USB 3.2 Gen 2 HDMI ATX

Pros: -inexpensive -MSI -Aesthetics -2xM2 -PCIE 4.0

Cons: -NIC

Overall Review: I bought this as an upgrade/platform switch to my aging Intel 6700k system, which was getting a little long in the tooth for the games of today. That being said this board paired very nicely with an AMD 5900X and 32GB of G.Skill RAM and my overall experience has been great, but I have serious doubts about the NIC built into the board. My previous Intel platform (MSI Board also) had a fantastic Gb NIC that never seemed to hiccup. I could stream, game and download with literally zero lag or noticeable performance degradation. However, the MPG-X570 seems to fall short in that category. If I try to download almost anything, then "attempt" to go to another webpage, everything goes to a trickle. Even with the latest driver, installed via the MSI Center, there is no improvement. Unfortunately, the NIC on this never breaks 100Mb.The Cat6 and Gb port on the router all work as they should with other devices. So, in summary great board, but the NIC is trash. I'll probably just buy a separate NIC card in the meantime to fix this issue, unless MSI and RealTek can solve this issue.

Pretty lights and no action

MSI Z170A GAMING M7 LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Nice design, loads of features, priced well

Cons: DOA

Overall Review: Unfortunately this board arrived to me DOA and did nothing but flash LED lights. No post at all regardless of what was done. This appears to be a common issue over at MSI right now as I have seen many complaints regarding my same experience in various forums. I do think the board is very attractive and has great potential, but the QC team needs to step it up a bit so customers aren't stuck with a bricked board. RMA as always with Newegg is superb and will hopefully have a new board in my paws shortly to finish my build. I will update once the RMA process has completed for a more thorough review.

Inexpensive Power

AMD FX-8350 Black Edition Vishera 8-Core 4.0 GHz (4.2 GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 125W FD8350FRHKBOX Desktop Processor

Pros: Quick, Inexpensive

Cons: N/A

Overall Review: I bought this as an upgrade from an 8120 that I previously purchased off Newegg. So far the CPU has worked flawlessly and breezes through all the applications I have, including my myriad of games. There was a noticeable improvement in my overall computing experience from the previous 8120. If you want a rock solid chip that doesn't break the bank then this is the chip for you.

Pros: Nicely designed, solid construction, well priced

Cons: Won't work..

Overall Review: Having difficulties with the board right now. After installing it won't POST. Cleared CMOS, nothing. Have switched out CPU's and memory, still nothing. Only thing left to check is the PSU
