This review is from: ASRock Z87 PRO3 LGA 1150 Intel Z87 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
Pros: Good mobo, easy to install, good layout.
BIOS is really nice to use and the self-update could not be any easier.
Cons: No matter what I try, I can't make that motherboard stay in Sleep or Hibernate mode under Windows 8.1.
First this is with a fresh Windows 8.1 install on top of a brand new ASRock motherboard.
Second what does Microsoft have to do with it? You know fairly well they will tell me to contact the motherboard manufacturer.
I have tried several options:
- Windows > Hibernate
- Windows > Sleep mode without the Intel RapidStart
- Windows > Sleep mode with the Intel RapidStart
- I have disabled the Windows options to wake up to do maintenance. I never installed the Remote Wake or Smart Connect software since it's the reverse of what I want.
- I have tried disabling *ALL* the options to wake from USB or RTC or interrupts in the BIOS.
- Updated to latest BIOS.
No matter what, the PC randomly comes wakes up within 1 minute or 5 minutes or 30 minutes. It varies.
It basically means all the fancy sleep/hibernates options promised by the motherboard are totally useless.
ASRock support has been very disappointing and unhelpful on the subject.
Other Thoughts: The Remote Wake or Smart Connect software seem of dubious utility. If you want a NAS, get a NAS.READ FULL REVIEW
This review is from: Shuttle XS35 Intel Atom D510 1.66GHz Intel NM10 Intel GMA 3150 Barebone
Pros: Nice design, easy to open and install hd/ram/dvd.
Cons: The provided BIOS does not have the "Restore power after AC loss" option, meaning it's useless if you want to turn this into a mini server -- which I was planning to. (There's a BIOS upgrade but it's said not to offer this option, it's just a wifi fix.)
Other Thoughts: Also newegg doesn't have a refund policy on this (only a limited exchange policy).READ FULL REVIEW
This review is from: Thermaltake Purepower W0100RU 500W ATX 12V 2.0 Power Supply
Pros: Cheat, good specs.
Cons: DOA, as I found after I spend 1h installing it. I called Thermaltake tech support which gave me a troubleshooting procedure, which is actually the same that is printed in the user manual that came with the PSU.
Now it's up to Newegg to give me a replacement.
Other Thoughts: Free shipping doesn't seem to apply to returns/replacements. I wish this were disclosed first hand.
There are a lot of comments around here regarding thermaltake rebates being rejected for no apparent good reason, so don't count too much on it.
