Most Favorable Review

Very good performance product

Seagate Momentus XT ST500LX003 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 2.5" Solid State Hybrid Drive Bare Drive
Seagate Momentus XT ST500LX003 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 2.5" Solid State Hybrid Drive Bare Drive

Pros: This drive works very well. Windows XP and Windows Vista will boot much faster. Should be the same for Windows 7 & Windows 8.

Cons: This drive doesn't have 8GB solid state cache like its big brother ST750LX003. It only has 4GB cache and it's not better than the ST95005620AS like another reviewer suggested. If you look at the spec sheet on Seagate site, you will see that they only give the information for the ST750LX003 and the ST95005620AS. They intentionally don't mention anything about the ST500LX003 to mislead people and let them think it has 8GB cache.

Overall Review: Still a very good product even though the cache is only 4GB.

Most Critical Review

You can NOT overcome the 2TB limitation on Windows XP with the ST3000DM001 (3TB)

Seagate Desktop HDD ST3000DM001 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive
Seagate Desktop HDD ST3000DM001 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Works fine under Windows Vista/7/8

Cons: DOES NOT WORK WITH WINDOWS XP 32-BIT !!! The ST3000DM001 (3TB) is incompatible with Windows XP 32-bit. This is because there is a problem with Seagate's DiscWizard. The software (current version 13.0.0.14387) won't install on Windows XP 32-bit. It is impossible to use a Seagate 3TB hard drive on Windows XP 32-bit without the special driver from Seagate. The problem is that this driver can only be installed on your system by installing Seagate's DiscWizard v13. But the software will give you an error message saying that: Preparing to install... File copying... --------------------------------- Installation Restrictions --------------------------------- Restrictions, which prevent the product installation, are detected. To install the product, at least one Seagate/Maxtor should be installed in your system. You can purchase an upgrade to Acronis True Image Home edition by visiting http://www.acronis.com/buy/atih/ Next > Installation Interrupted The installation was interrupted before Seagate DiscWizard could be installed. You need to restart the installer to try again. _________________ N.-B.: 1- This is not a drive issue, it is a DRIVER issue. 2- With Windows XP 32-bit, the ST3000DM001 is seen under the Device Manager, but Windows XP does not see anything under the Disk Management (Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Storage > Disk Management). 3- No DiscWizard 13 = no driver = no partitions. 4- Many people reported this problem. Thank you Seagate !!!

Overall Review: The bottom line is: Don't buy a 3TB Seagate hard drive if you need to access your data on a Windows XP 32-bit system. Buy a 2TB instead (you will be able to use DiscWizard version 11).
