XFX R9-290X ENFC Radeon R9 290X 4GB 512-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 CrossFireX Support Video Card
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 day to 1 week

Pros: Very good value for the performance.
XFX support was prompt and very courteous.

Cons: Card will teeter on the 95C heat threshold very quickly if pushed, which will then either increase the fan RPM and noise or dial down the clock speed (or both).

Other Thoughts: This review is intended to supercede my previous review indicating a hardware failure.
Specifically, it was not stated that with this card a displayport/hdmi + DVI configuration needs to happen all along the same channel; the DVI port cannot be connected diagonally from the other cable(s). This was not the case with my 7970, so I can only imagine that either my 7970 was atypical or this is a new requirement that wasn't documented well with this new card.

Acer B6 B276HULymiidprz Black 27
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 day to 1 week

Pros: Great resolution for gaming.
Nice form factor.
Reasonably-sized frame.

Cons: The monitor I received had some dust/particulate between the display and the glass. However, after I let it settle for about 2 or 3 days it fell to the bottom of the frame and does not disrupt the picture. I did not deduct and egg for this as it doesn't affect usage.

Other Thoughts: This is my first monitor above 23" and I have found that I need to sit further away from it.

XFX R9-290X ENFC Radeon R9 290X 4GB 512-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 CrossFireX Support Video Card
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 day to 1 week

Pros: new.

Cons: Displayport causes BSOD.
HDMI causes stutter in regular Windows usage.
Cannot render games/video (DXA GPU acceleration) without crashing.
Newest drivers from the AMD website do not help.

Other Thoughts: A card should work new out of the box and this one does not. I cannot give this more than one egg as I can't even start to evaluate the product.

I had heard that XFX products are prone to DoA, but I guess I wanted to see with my own eyes. I have contacted the manufacturer for a suggestion.
