This review is from: SAPPHIRE 100288L Radeon HD 4650 1GB 128-Bit DDR2 AGP 8X HDCP Ready Video Card
Pros: Well priced card, looks solid and probably a strong performer (could not verify though due to driver problems - see cons).
Cons: I could not get drivers to install correctly in Windows 7 - 64 bit despite several hours of internet research and a clean W7 install. My attempts included the latest available updates from AMD/ATI. I would strongly advise caution to those wanting to run on W7-64bit and for other platforms I recommend doing some research before buying. I would ask "Why buy problems?".
Other Thoughts: In my experience ATI drivers have been weak for way too many years, including several prior to the acquisition of ATI by AMD. I can only conclude the software (ie the drivers) is not a priority for this hardware company. And yet the software is a requirement in order for a customer to get value from the hardware. Go figure.
I have become fairly adept at solving driver problems over the years ... unfortunately .. and also far less willing to spend time solving what I consider to be the supplier's problems. I have simply reached my time limit on this card ... and probably ATI for that matter. I would not hesitate to consider another Sapphire card based on different (non-ATI) technology. My buying experience with Newegg was exactly what I expected - predictable and troublefree as usual.
