ICY DOCK MB671SK-BB Tray-less 3.5
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 day to 1 week

Pros: It works, did not kill my drive. Keeps idle drives cooler than the BYTECC did. Door and extractor works better too.

Cons: Cooling fan does not shut off when no drive is inserted. The fan would last longer if it did.

Other Thoughts: I wish I could still get the Syba model, those worked very well.

BYTECC BT-M150BK SATA Hot-Swap Mobile Rack - Tray Less Design

1 out of 5 eggs Not this one 08/30/2011

This review is from: BYTECC BT-M150BK SATA Hot-Swap Mobile Rack - Tray Less Design

Pros: Drives work when inserted.

Cons: Drives get way too hot when used with these enclosures. I use many other enclosures in the computers I use and none of them get drives as hot as this one does. The brand I usually buy is not available any longer. The fan on the unit was working and the case of the computer was still open. The drive was not even working, had been idle for hours. When I extracted the drive it felt twice as hot as any other drive I have felt. The drive I was using was a Seagate 1T xt Barracuda.

Other Thoughts: I am going to try the Icy Dock enclosures next

5 out of 5 eggs Older hardware and WinXP Pro 64 beware 2 08/18/2011

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda XT ST33000651AS 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Works on my raid controller (3ware 9650SE) with a firmware update. It sees the whole drive in one piece with Win XP Pro 64. 8.19 TB raid 5 drive! I may be able to get all my HD movies on one drive!

Cons: On the bleeding edge, as mentioned before by others. You have to know your hardware level when it come to your controllers and their limitations.

Other Thoughts: The controller on my mother board (the Supermicro mentioned below) is not compatible with this drive. Thank goodness my raid controller is.
