AMD FX-8320 Vishera 8-Core 3.5 GHz (4.0 GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 125W FD8320FRHKBOX Desktop Processor
  • Verified Owner
  • neweggOwned For: 1 week to 1 month

Pros: your set-up/board will determine how far this chip can go

disabled all APM type settings
20x multiplier
Bus speed 220 MHz
set the LLC towards the upper spectrum to compensate
for Vdroop
4.4 GHz

haven't bumped around voltages so I know this cpu can go much further

Cons: if you want to acquire the upper performance limits aftermarket cooling is going to be a must

using a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus in a dual fan push-pull configuration

average about 17.5c @ idle
topped @ 55.1c full load for several hours

warmer than I like, but not alarmingly so

Other Thoughts: I wouldn't put this in an off the shelf case unless you feel comfortable running with the side panel off

Cooler Master Blade Master 120 - Sleeve Bearing 120mm PWM Cooling Fan for Computer Cases, CPU Coolers, and Radiators
  • Verified Owner
  • neweggOwned For: 1 week to 1 month

Pros: sturdy construction
good air flow

Cons: a little bit noisier than the rest of the fans I have, but not to an annoying level

Other Thoughts: used it for a dual fan push-pull configuration on a cool master hyper 212 cpu cooler

GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+ AMD 990FX + SB950 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
  • Verified Owner
  • neweggOwned For: 1 week to 1 month

Pros: --good layout -for me-(see cons for potential issues)

Cons: these didn't affect my build, but may affect yours

the front sata ports are forward facing - might cause cramped cable issues unless you have a large case

the back dram slot will be covered if you use a large cpu cooler - low profile ram will fit fine

Other Thoughts: got into a rant about the bios and forgot to mention these
