Easy as Pie

ASUS RT-N53 Dual Band Wireless N600 SOHO Router, DD-WRT Open Source support, Fast Ethernet, 5 Guest SSID, Parental Access Time control to Each User
ASUS RT-N53 Dual Band Wireless N600 SOHO Router, DD-WRT Open Source support, Fast Ethernet, 5 Guest SSID, Parental Access Time control to Each User

Pros: Easy Easy Easy Setup. Very good range, definite improvement over my old but reliable D-LINK VWR router. WiFi Analyzer fro Android shows a much stronger signal for my pc which is only about 25 ft from the router but goes through one floor. Signal improved from less than 50% to well over 60%. Netflix streaming is seamless now with no pauses or hiccups. I had also tried changing channels with the old router since everyone in my neighborhood uses the same chanels but that didn't help at all.

Cons: Firmware wouldn't update but stock firmware seems to be perfectly fine so no complaints. I might flash with open source firmware just for fun. We'll see.

Overall Review: I was skeptical something that had internal antennas could work so well but the proof is in the electronic pudding. Mmm pudding.

Most Critical Review

Firmware is weak, weak I tell you!

BUFFALO WHR-HP-G54 802.11b/g Wireless-G High Power Router up to 54Mbps/ Open Source DD-WRT Support
BUFFALO WHR-HP-G54 802.11b/g Wireless-G High Power Router up to 54Mbps/ Open Source DD-WRT Support

Pros: Arrived on time, great packing, shiny and new looking. Butch looking aerial. Does broadcast powerfully.

Cons: Would not synchronize with the comcast voip modem. LAN acess only. Easy setup did not work. Manual config did not work. Internet connection wizard did not work. Numerous how-to's and walk through's did not work. Manufacturer tech support was unavailable despite repeated calls (and long fruitless waits with surprise! disconnetcs after 20 mins) to their 24/7 number. I will flash with Tomato, void the warranty and we'll go from there.

Overall Review: Went back to my vonage d-link voip router vwr-vd which has been bullet proof for 4 years. I had never used the wireless features on it but shazam! it worked in seconds - I'm writing on it now. Why did I order a new router? Anyhoo: hardware - good. Firmware - muy malo.

Great Quality - Minor Flaws

Acer H Series H274HLbmd Black 27" 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 ACM 100000000:1 Built-in Speakers

Pros: Great imaging, very light weight, no heat loss, Acer quality, lots of real estate but not too much. HDMI, DVI and VGA- prefer DVI personally.

Cons: Some bleed through on edges - but only noticeable watching movies and only since I started looking for it after calibrating on a VERY detailed website. Sometimes knowledge is a bad thing. :/

Overall Review: Bought this at a local store "refurbished" for less than 2 bills. Also got the 2 year warranty for $20. I'm sure it was returned new because of the minor bleed through when viewing movies. For gaming and surfing and office productivity it's awesome. Also have an Acer 23" LCD and love them both. Great for gaming: Crysis 2, Portal 2, Counter-Strike:S, etc. All look fantastic and no smearing. For photo manipulation and Netflix streaming I've noticed DVI is the way to go. HDMI always looks washed out no matter what I do and I've spent hours trying to get a warm rich tone. From now on, dual DVI vid cards. System: Acer Aspire 1200x (Slimline they were practically giving em away at Fry's) Saphire HD 5570 (yeah baby) Zalman 450 watt PSU - rides shotgun outside the case Athlon 64 x2 2.6 Ghz 4 gigs generic ram Vista Home 64 bit (meh :/) Startech USB Sound card (replaced Creative USB x-Fi ) - highly recommended - running to a Pro-Ject Head phone amp powering my Grado 225's - Audio N

Shazam!

D-Link DWA-556 Xtreme Desktop Adapter IEEE 802.11g/n PCI Express
D-Link DWA-556 Xtreme Desktop Adapter IEEE 802.11g/n PCI Express

Pros: Solid connection, no drop outs, easy install, works great with Vista and Ubuntu Lucid Lynx. Does not require you to install D-Link software. Makes my Acer Slimline a force to be reckoned with in Counter-Strike. Puts that otherwise useless PCI-E slot to good use.

Cons: I didn't buy it from Newegg. My bad. :(

Overall Review: This replaces a Linksys wireless G USB adapter that constantly dropped my connection despite the fact that it was less than 30 ft away from the access point. The linksys replaced a superior D-Link wireless G USB adapter that got smooshed while moving across the country. :( Now I'm back in the game! :)

SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 5570 1GB DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 Low Profile Ready Video Card 100293L
SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 5570 1GB DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 Low Profile Ready Video Card 100293L

Pros: Works great with Linux Ubuntu, works great with Vista (if you must), runs cool, low profile bracket fits in my Acer Aspire x1200 perfectly, low power high output is awesome. Bioshock looks fantastic (high settings) and so does Halo 2 (high settings), very fast response on both. About to load Crysis, Warhead, F.E.A.R. and the HL 2 suite of Games - expecting great things. Delivered on-time.

Cons: It doesn't bake me cookies and tuck me in at night.

Overall Review: Acer Aspire X1200 Slimline AMD Athlon X2 5000+(2.6 GHz) MB: NVIDIA GeForce 8200 4 GB RAM Super Multi DVD Drive This Vid Card 220 watts (!) Sharp 19" LCD HDTV As another reviewer mentioned, in Ubuntu you need to set this card up with VGA cables attached first - then run System, Hardware Update - it will load the right driver, reboot and you can use DVI or HDMI. Although I prefer the softer colors with VGA - at least for photos. ;-0
