SILVERSTONE Black Aluminum / Steel Grandia Series SST-GD08B ATX Media Center / HTPC Case
  • Verified Owner
  • neweggOwned For: 1 week to 1 month

Pros: For a HTPC case this thing has a lot of room for full sized video cards and also fits nicely in a home entertainment center looking like it is meant to be there.

Cons: It would be a very tight fit if you loaded this thing up with even a few 3.5" hard drives. I just use a 2.5" ssd above the DVD player and space is still fairly tight inside the case but that is to be expected with a HTPC case. Nature of the beast.

CORSAIR CX-M series CX500M 500W 80 PLUS BRONZE Active PFC ATX12V & EPS12V Modular Power Supply
  • Verified Owner
  • neweggOwned For: 1 week to 1 month

Pros: Modular and pretty much silent. No coil whine or fan noise.

Cons: Mine was a little bit tweaked, as in the case didn't quite fit together right but I didn't want to bother sending it in and not having a psu for a build I did. It just a visual flaw otherwise the PSU works perfect.

Seasonic SS-660XP2 ATX 12V / EPS 12V, 660W, 80 PLUS PLATINUM Full Modular certified Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Really nice PSU and cables, rated and tested by many sites as one of the best PSU out there. Also got it on sale for $89 that the main reason I bought it.

Cons: It makes a coil whine noise when I use it with a halogen lamp plugged in the same room. I read many people having this problem but it sounded like their PSU make this sound all the time. Mine only does it with the one lamp. I ended up moving it to another build I have in my HTPC and it is silent in there.

I know it is just this PSU making noise with the lamp because I switched out 3 other PSU(seasonic, antec and corsair) and all 3 were silent with the lamp. Weird that this top of the line PSU would be the only one that makes noise.

Also I read about enabling ERP and sleep 5 in the bois to get rid of the coil whine and I tried that and it still made the noise when I turned the lamp on. Turning the lamp off and the PSU is silent. Might be a small issue but it is loud enough and annoying enough I wouldn't use this PSU in that room and had to switch it to another build. If I didn't have another computer to use it in I would have sent it back or sold it.
