Pros: Pretty shade of blue
Cons: Long-term viability is questionable
Other Thoughts: Just after 2 years of ownership, my computer froze randomly. A memory test confirmed one stick started to fail.
With luck I've got the bad one of the draw, but if electronic components last within a year, it's sad that they won't stand up to 5 years or more. Even hard drives last longer than 5 years.
Pros: * NewEgg's return policy (which is 5-stars!!)
If you do get a bad kit, exchanging is easy... if you prefer a refund, just be patient for the full refund.
Much thanks to NewEgg's service with this issue; I am definitely confident in purchasing from them in the future!
Cons: * See previous review (2/11/2012 5:06:47 AM) - if you get a defective kit (not likely but possible), have no worries - NewEgg's service is fantastic.
Other Thoughts: Even in the best of times flaws can manifest themselves during the manufacturing process of a product, and I was just one of the unlucky ones. Corsair typically is a good brand, but if you do run into problems, NewEgg will happily assist. (I chose a refund due primarily to a priority project that I couldn't put aside for further RAM installing... )
Again, much thanks to NewEgg for great customer service.
Mac compatible (MC725LL)
Cons: No heat spreaders
Testing/usage causes Mac to heat up an extra 7~10C
Received a bad RAM stick
Other Thoughts: When running RAM diagnostics, they failed after the third sweep. (They should NEVER fail, if you're doing a full test process.)
Just to make sure it wasn't my Mac, I ran the same tests after putting back the original RAM. The tests did not fail, and the fan temperature indicator read ~10C lower temperature.
I wish I included a screengrab when putting in the return RMA to help show I received defective RAM, but if you buy the RAM, test it thoroughly - unless you wish to invite data corruption or system instability.
I would wait for the next version; one with integrated heat spreaders might help, especially when laptops are tightly contained devices to begin with. Whether the lack of heat spreaders caused the test to fail after the third iteration, or other factors, but be aware and do test the RAM thoroughly before having to rely on it.
