Pros: lots of choices here for the sky lake's memory choices will be good as well. it is tiny by all means does not mena it comes short on performance.
Cons: not sure if this is a con or a flaw or what the heck this is. the "intelli fan" module in the bios seems to have a glitch in my board with a standard setting the fans run almost full speed. with the full speed setting they cycle hi and low speeds. and the optional "customise" setting is off by an average of 10+ degrees. C. i did a bios update to 1.30 still same story.. although the update did only cover DRAM compatability and cpu micro code updates. yes i did indeed check the fan connectors many times to make sure they are NOT switched.
if you are doing ubuntu or variants there of you will need to find another way to connect to the network perhaps an ol wifi dongle. because the intel lan is not recognised by ubuntu 14.04 there is a fix for it AND the non functioning sound card.
below is the link.. IF it posts...
Other Thoughts: i know this is a budget board by asus/pegatron and i did indeed buy this locally. needed it same day and the convenioence of not having to pay return shipping well the price out the door was the same after all is said and done. my past experience with asus has not been good by any means. but i am hoping ASUS has changed their ways in the last 8-10 years and stopped making garbage. like they once did. past boards have from ASUS have caught fire quit working, powercycled, and even plain shut down, and the list goes on. this fan issue as mentioned above is not showing much promise so far. attention ASUS. if this system fails i will return to gigabyte and never look back this IS indeed your final chance with me.. im giving you 3 eggs because this one does not work like it should send me a link to a fix and ill gladly revice my review.READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: very versatile board many cpu options. integrated wifi supports newer ac band. support ubuntu14.04 64 bit nicely. yes even the buitl in blue tooth works. i read alot of issues with the wifi and windows. this may be a windows driver problem. certainly not an issue in ubuntu or at least i have not seen it YET. for now i am testing its stabiltiy by leaving it on all day. temps are on avg 35-43c but thats normal for an amd.
Cons: this is not a gamer board by any means so dont expect it to run massive games. usb ports are somewhat limited. and the wiring may be a nightmare as the connector are all over the place..
Other Thoughts: i have had this board about 24 hours as of this review so it will not be glowing and have 5 eggs. this is my first mini itx build and should be interesting at best. i do not know how well the onboard video works as i added an old amd card to it. i paired the board with a simple a4 amd dual core cpu. @3.0 ghz. but this can be upgraded to most any FM/FM2+ A series. for memory i used a single 1333 4 gb of mushkin silver line. only showing 3.7 in bios. so there is room to expand. this is a budget build for a family member whose needs will be more than met. since i asked what will be done with the build i will build to suit the needs.READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: see prior review. solved prior charging issue
Cons: can not find a case to fit this will have to special order one..
Other Thoughts: in prior review of the device i stated it would not charge when in off (shutdown) mode. i was able to remedy the issue. if you have the same issue here is what should solve the problem.
if after update of asus 184.108.40.206 the device does not charge in off state you will need to wipe the cache and reset to factory via hard reset. a hard reset can be performed via the following steps.
1. shut device down completely.
2. press and hold volume up and press and hold power on. when you see the asus logo release the buttons. it is normal for screen to stay dark for a few seconds about 5 seconds or so. you will eventually have a "no command" with a red triangle warning.
3. press and hold power and tap volume up. you should now have a menu up. goto bottom and wipe system cache. restart device. *note pressing power power =enter*
4. repeat steps 1-3.*** EXCEPT do not perform wipe cache.***
5. now goto factory reset and select yes. then allow device to restart.
goto settings >battery and take notice of percentage. shut device down.
plug in charger wait about 30 minutes it should have charged. somewhat. i do not recommend using a usb port charger from a pc they do not have the same voltage or amp ratings as the one that was supplied.
as best as i can tell there appears to be a residual code that does not allow charging when off in the cache or new settings are not loaded with the asus update and must be forced to new update. or removed from old cache. this solved my issue. for no charging in power off state and i will not RMA this device..
