This review is from: ARCTIC COOLING Accelero XTREME GTX 280 Fluid Dynamic VGA Cooler
Pros: It's very quiet and reduced my temperatures. Exactly what a cooler is supposed to do.
Cons: 1) This does NOT fit the evga core 216 gtx260 boards. Basically, you have to dispense with the idea of using ramsinks altogether if you want to use it on this card. This wasn't a big deal to me when I realised it would never work, but if you're planning on vastly overclocking memory, this will probably hurt.
2) I had to remove the shim around the GPU itself to get the block to touch the GPU. THIS IS IMPORTANT, AS IT IS NOT IN ANY INSTRUCTION SET. The block is NOT flat. Extra lapping would help, but I didn't bother.
3) IT'S HUGE. MAKE SURE THIS FITS IN YOUR CASE. This extends the length of the card by nearly an inch, which basically precludes all 18.6" depth cases out there, which is most of them. I had to remove half the drive cage to put this card back in the case.
4) IT'S HUGE HEIGHTWISE, TOO. I was using two GPUs before this, however the cooler on my other card now bumps into this cooler. Roughly 2.5 PCI slots are now used, rather than 2.
Other Thoughts: Admittedly, I could have done my research ahead of time and realised this was completely infeasible as-is, though I'm honestly surprised anyone owns a case that can fit this thing. If you search other forums, you will see many (vocal) owners also had to remove the drive cages.READ FULL REVIEW
This review is from: ZALMAN VF1000 2 Ball VGA Cooler
Pros: This cooler is unbelievably silent on the lowest setting. My PC, which now contains two copper Zalman coolers, can't be heard above a whisper.
Cons: Um. No guarantees by zalman it will fit 9800GTs? Their card list hasn't been updated in a while.
Other Thoughts: This is installed on the (far, far louder) gigabyte 9800gt with "zalman cooler." Rest assured this both cools better and doesn't sound like a very angry leaf blower.READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: It's a 9800GT. Card runs quite cool at idle (44C).
Cons: Despite the Zalman fan, this card is not quiet. At first I thought something was wrong and that the fan was stuck in 100%, but this is actually how it sounds. It's not shrill, but it's definitely not quiet.
Other Thoughts: The fan has recently developed a rattle.READ FULL REVIEW
