Pros: Although each manufacturer tweaks its cards a little, this one should not be too different from other GTX 780 in terms of performance. And performance is really good. I didn't experience any problem playing games at 2560x1080. Some games, however, are not optimized for this resolution but that's not the card's fault. The main question is how quiet are the fans. I would say that the fans are relatively quiet when idling. All I can hear is my case fan. Based on the one game I played, I would also rate the cards' fans as quiet. They don't seem to spin that much faster when playing a game (or the fans are very quiet even at high speed).
Cons: Nothing to really complain about. I feel some heat when playing games. This is kind of annoying in summer but my guess is that other GTX 780 would generate as much heat. Necessary evil.
Other Thoughts: I'm coming from 2 GTX 670 in SLI. I'm not sure I gained a lot in terms of performance but the heat and noise both dropped substantially. Noise doesn't annoy me anymore like it used to and heat is much more bearable.READ FULL REVIEW
This review is from: Intel BOXD54250WYK1 2 x 204Pin SO-DIMM Intel HD Graphics 5000 NUC Kit
Pros: I bought this NUC to use as HTPC so my review will be limited. I only play movies and watch videos from the web. This NUC does all that very well. The i5 cpu should also be more than enough for older games. Overall, I'm extremely happy with this choice.
Cons: A critical factor for HTPCs is noise. This thing is not silent. The fan however is extremely quiet and I haven't noticed it from the couch. Actually, I first thought that it was dead silent but when I came close to plug a USB stick I clearly heard the fan. I was very surprised as I didn't expect to hear the fan. But again, it's very quiet. The only reason why I'm mentioning this is for those interested in having this NUC on all the time in a bedroom. As quiet as it is, you will hear the fan. You should, however, keep in mind that in my case the fan may have been slightly louder than normal because I was playing videos.
Other Thoughts: This may have been overkill for HTPC. Not the NUC's fault but I think the i3 would have been good enough and I would have saved $100. Keep that in mind if you're looking for a HTPC.
An integrated Wifi module would have been welcome. Then they could have replaced the pci slot with another sata slot. You don't want an external hard drive attached to this little machine.
This review is from: Plextor M3 Series 2.5" 256GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) PX-256M3
Pros: I have owned many SSDs over the past few years. This was my first SSD from a second tier brand. As with all my previous SSDs, everything works just fine. This one is installed in a mac mini running OS X and Windows 7. It is much faster than the Momentus XT I used previously.
Cons: Kind of on the expensive side. You can easily find a cheaper one.
Other Thoughts: All in all, very happy with this drive. Will buy Plextor again.READ FULL REVIEW
