5 out of 5 eggs Impressive - GO FOR IT 12/22/2008

This review is from: GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: This is a quality board and is built very solid. I thought that it was hype when they said that this board has twice the amount of Copper compared to others. Plenty of SATA ports.

Cons: None really

Other Thoughts: This is my first Gigabyte board. I initially purchaed the Asus P5N-D and had nothing but problems. I finally RMA's the Asus board and decided to give this board a try.

I am sold on Gigabyte now and my future builds are going to be Gigabyte.

4 out of 5 eggs It DOES DO Virtualization 12/22/2008

This review is from: Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 Quad-Core 2.33GHz LGA 775 95W Processor BX80580Q8200

Pros: See other thoughts

Cons: See other thoughts

Other Thoughts: I saw an earlier comment that this CPU does not support virtualization. That is incorrect. All Core 2 Quad procs support virtualization http://www.intel.com/products/processor/core2quad/specifications.htm

You need a motherboard and BIOS that supports this function

Pros: 45nm technology, 1333 FSB

Cons: Only 4 MB L2 Cache. I took one star off becasue of the the awful pins that need to lock the heatsink on to the CPU

Other Thoughts: I was in a dilemma whether to go with this CPU (Q8200) vs the Q6600.

The Q8200 has a faster FSB, but smaller cache. After doing about an hours worth f research, I finally decided to go with the Q8200. Here'w why

If you are a gamer or an avergage user you will get more benefit from teh Q8200 with the faster FSB. The 45nm chip also will consume less power and will run cooler.

However, if you plan to run applications that manipulate large amounts of data (Eg. SQL Server, Oracle, Video Editing of very large files, etc), then the Q6600 may be a better bet because you will benefit from the extra cache.
