Pros: Worked great and fast for less than a week...
Cons: Hard disk died for no apparent reason. Was installing Kaspersky antivirus software and all of a sudden windows explorer starts acting up. I thought to myself, hm weird. I should probably restart the computer. Did that and now the Broadcom SATA controller can't bot the hard drive.
When you go into the boot menu the drives are still detectable but neither the ssd nor the rotary disc drive are capable of booting.
Other Thoughts: Apparently you cannot get a refund from Newegg on laptop returns. Caveat emptor indeed. Customer service rep. told me that I needed to ship the unit to Newegg to "restore" the unit. Any further action would have to be with the manufacturer; ie Lenovo.
What bothers me is that I don't remember reading anything about this policy of no refunds on laptops. Perhaps the manufacturer will offer a refund for the defective unit if it can't be repaired but I have to say that after years of having a pretty good experience with Newegg this is extremely disappointing.
Pros: Excellent SSD/rotary disc combination with 60gb ssd and 750gb capacity. 750gb hd is 5400rpm, but fast ssd mitigates any lag. Very fast i7 4x CPU, 8gb of RAM is plenty. HDMI out, ESATA and USB 3 makes this laptop a beast. Geforce GT 555M handles HD video playback very nicely when combined with CoreAVC codec.
Cons: Runs a little warm, even with a cooler plugged in underneath but isn't excessively hot. Take a little time to sort out preinstalled software to figure out what is and isn't bloatware. Keyboard feels a little cramped but isn't missing any keys. Good I/O options but lack of PCI card slot is a bit worrying although this seems to be a trend with most laptop/ultrabook manufacturers.READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: Excellent storage capacity and file transfer/streaming speeds.
Good collection of options for I/O interfacing (USB 2, firewire and esata).
Cool look/professional appearance of product in silver aluminum case.
Cons: Esata can be a bit tricky/unstable(see other thoughts).
No USB 3 :(. (maybe in future products from G-Tech)
Other Thoughts: Really excellent drive, great looking and fast both in terms of data throughput, streaming and file transfer. Had no problem formatting this drive, took maybe 10 seconds tops in Windows 7 Pro 64 using disk management as per G-Tech's website instructions. Great specs for storage capacity and hard disc rpm speed is great at 7200. Runs a little warm unless its being used for large data transfers and is pretty quiet.
A few problems: the esata functionality of the drive can be a bit of a problem. In my PC through my Intel mobo's built-in esata ports the drive has a tendency to hang up after 2-2.5 hours use. After researching the problem, it seems that G-Drives are more compatible with discrete high quality PCI cards, so caveat emptor if esata functionality is important for you(if it is google it and figure out which esata PCI is best for your rig).
Unfortunately this drive was made before the advent of USB 3 so can't take advantage of that but has USB 2 functionality.
