This review is from: Noctua NH-U12DO A3 for AMD Opteron workstations and Servers CPU Cooler
Pros: very nice, stylish, huge heatsinks. keeps my dual opteron 6272's nice and cool. i love the dual fans to help airflow through the case.
Cons: tricky to assemble, and one of the noctua heatsinks i ordered had a few noticable dents in the top. nothing problematic, but i expected something nicer with the high pricetag. only one of the heatsinks was in view of the clear panel side, so i was able to place the flawless one in view.READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: worked absolutely perfectly out of the box, with plenty of expansion options. usb ports work after reboot (2nd revision board), plenty of ethernet ports, even ps/2 connectors! along with more sata ports than i could dream of using.
Cons: only 2 USB ports. not so much a con, as i needed a usb 3.0 addon card (silverstone) for the usb 3.0 ports on the case anyway, and usb isn't a priority on a server machine anyway.
the pci-e slots were a little bit confusing, but made sense after a while. the asus manual was a great help for showing what ones would be disabled or run at 8x while others were occupied. i did not get a MIO audio card, as it would not fit with the noctua NH-U9DO heatsinks.
Other Thoughts: I'm running this board along with:
dual opteron 6272's
2x 16gb kingston 1600mhz ddr3 ecc memory
silverstone raven case (awesome case!)
silverstone usb3.0 card with front panel connector
nvidia gtx titan
corsair tx750 v2
noctua NH-U9DO heatsinks
and a lone 2TB barracuda drive (for now).
This review is from: APEVIA ATX-AS680W-BL 680W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready Power Supply
Pros: tons of fans and awesome lights
Cons: claims to be sli ready. i researched what kind of wattage i'd need for my PC (core i5-2500K and 2 geforce 470's) and got around 550~650 as recommended wattage, however my first time gaming with it, my PC shut off and i found a bad smell. either card running at 100%, or both cards running under 50% or so is fine. if usage gets too high the case lights flicker and the PSU gives a bad smell, so i've been making sure to down-clock my gpu's and be careful in the meantime. i''ll be upgrading to a better power supply and using this one as an upgrade for a game server i run.
Other Thoughts: at least it still runs for me! and 50% of 2 geforce 470's is still pretty BA performance for now.READ FULL REVIEW
