This review is from: VANTEC 3-Port FireWire 400 PCIe Host Card Model UGT-FW200
Pros: Plug-n-play just as advertised.
Other Thoughts: I bought another brand that never worked no matter what I did, so I tried this Vantec card and I’m glad I did. I use it with a Canon VIXIA HV 30 Video cam with no problems.READ FULL REVIEW
This review is from: AMS 2-Port eSATA PCI-E Host Controller Model SP-PCIE3132
Cons: Card would not work. Computer would not see it.
No CD or drivers came with the card.
No drivers or support from the manufactures site.
Other Thoughts: This card never would work, and caused me two days of aggravation trying to make it work. No CD with drivers came with the card, and there are no drivers on the manufactures site, even tho they say there is, they also say no drivers are needed. I removed this card, and hooked it up via USB, all my problems went away.
I can not recommend this card at all.
This review is from: AMS DS-309SUES Aluminum 3.5" Black SATA USB2.0 & eSATA External Enclosure
Pros: Easy Setup once I realized the eSATA connection was not going to work and I hooked up via USB
Incrememtal backups are faster than old IED enclosure
Cons: Could never get the eSATA connection to work.
AMD eSATA card I bought was dead out of the box, and I had to return it.
AMD will not support products not bought thru them. Fortunately, Newegg will. Take care of you.
Other Thoughts: I use the enclosures for backup drives, and this is my second AMD Venus enclosure. The first one met all my needs, and I really liked it, but I needed to upgrade from my 320GB hard drive to a new 1TB drive. The old enclosure was for IDE drives. The new drive was SATA, so I was forced to buy a new enclosure. I also bought an AMD eSATA card to make use of the high speed transfer, and the card was basically junk, but that’s another review. I’ve ended up using the USB connection, and once the initial backup of a few hundred gigs was done, incremental backkups are fast. Faster than the old AMD enclosure. I’m pleased once I got it up and running, and contrary to what I was reading, the blue led light does not bother me at all.READ FULL REVIEW
