Pros: This drive is made for a NAS setup with 24/7 365 continuous use. I now have 3 other drives at 4T each plus this one which brings the total to 22T for my cloud server. I couldn't be more happy and I have given access to many friends and family to use my cloud server for all their storage needs. Dropbox and other cloud services are a thing of the past for me as I have sole control to how I store and retrieve all my files now.
Access times for this drive are pretty fast and while I won't get in to specific numbers, I can tell you that it's pretty impressive and not what I would have expected for such a large drive.
I no longer have to worry about scanning over pictures, videos or files to make up space on my server with this drive. I am a little concerned that I will be left with more stuff to go through later because of this and I can't imagine even going through all of the pictures I already have on this drive. I will get a little more organized but at this time I feel almost like there is no limit with this drive. 10T is definitely a little mind blowing.
Cons: I see some reviews saying there is no middle mounting hole but my NAS system does not use this type of mounting. No cons for what I am using it for. The warranty is 3 years but I am not worried about that as I've used Seagate drives in the past with no issues.
Other Thoughts: I have been running this drive for a little under a month continuously and have had no issues whatsoever. After me and a few friends and family have been throwing almost every file we own, we still have not filled this drive up and it will be a long time before we do. 10T can basically hold upwards of 170,000 hrs of music, 400 days of continuous standard quality video, 3,100,000 photos, or 5000 movies. It is an incredible amount of storage and I am extremely satisfied with the performance of this drive. This drive makes my WD DL4100 NAS so much better do to it only having 4 bays as opposed to a 8 bay system. I plan on getting at least one more 10T drive in the near future to use in raid.READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: This drive is awesome and it is definitely my new portable drive solution. It is very slim and non-obtrusive. Very modern, elegant in design and I've gotten great comments on this drive. The speed is great and I have been averaging 110 MB/s using USB 3.0. No issues with a month of use using it to transfer video, music, photo and large amount of other personal data. Very happy and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a small portable drive with a huge amount of space. 1 T is an still an enormous amount of space especially for a portable solution.
An added bonus is the 200 GB of cloud storage for 2 years. I'm not even sure why they had to add this but how cool is that? 50 GB would have been awesome, but 200 GB is outstanding and simply amazes me. I no longer search through pictures to try to save the best ones to save on space and just keep everything and this cloud storage has just made that easier because my other cloud storage only gives me 50 GB of storage.
Cons: It's still a mechanical drive and I would hate to drop this onto a hard surface. Accidents do happen when you least expect them and I plan on having an additional backup of the important data on this drive onto another drive but this is common sense with any drive so always keep that in mind.
Speed transfer is another concern. It would take over 2 hrs to fill this drive and probably more closer to 3+ if you were writing at full speed. An SSD would be a much better choice if speed and huge amounts of data are of most importance.
Other Thoughts: This is a great solution to anyone needing a portable drive with a large amount of space, ultimate portability and very elegant design. I know I will be getting a lot of use out of this drive and the cloud storage that Seagate has included for free is pretty awesome and almost unheard of with any other drive you will find.READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: I used this hard drive for a month with heavy use for gaming and as a storage drive and so far it's preformed as expected. Once the games load into the SSD memory, it performed very well. There was an initial lag of what I would expect with a 5900 RPM hard drive but a great increase of speed after just a few seconds.
Price is great for this hard drive. I have bought a lot of SSDs over the years and placed them in raid 0 and this drive can't be compared when it comes to speed of those but I never had a lot of storage and always ran out of space so this drive is definitely great for storage and has a far better gain on speed compared to a traditional hard drive.
After a lot of use, I don't see any issues that some of the earlier reviews encountered. These drives must have gotten updated and a lot of those DOA and failure issues were most likely addressed at that time.
Cons: Still not as fast as a SSD and if you have the money to spare it's worth it to have the speed increase even if you have to settle with less space. This is entirely up to the user of course to make that decision.
The 4 TB version of this drive is 5900 RPM and I did notice this quite a bit until the info was loaded into the faster 8GB of SSD memory. Take for example, while watching a movie sometimes the screen pauses visually but the sound will go on. 5 seconds later you can skip to any part of the movie with instant playback and no issue. You still have to deal with the loading time which is a 5900 RPM drive and this is something you won't see on a SSD.
Other Thoughts: Overall, after a lot of use I found this drive to be a great upgrade from a traditional hard drive and the 64 MB of cache works great on this drive. Once the data gets loaded into the memory the performance will make you never want to go back to a standard hard drive.READ FULL REVIEW
