Pros: Ability to stream video remotely
Cons: Loud fan - too fast to compensate for poor thermal packaging design (mine actually has a bad bearing too), guide doesn't map channels properly for Clear QAM, only picked up 2/3's of channels via OTA antenna, when all channels we have available are located on the same transmitter tower, streaming video to Roku channel or phones works very sporadically, poor support.
Other Thoughts: I love the concept behind the new Simple.TV, but even with the delay releasing it, it still wasn't ready to ship to consumers. The fan is completely wrong for the case - the case should have holes in the top, or a fan that exhausts out the side. Due to this, the fan runs constantly, and very fast/loud. Even with the fan going so fast, the unit still gets fairly hot.
When playing video via browser, HTML 5 playback mode constantly locks up the video playback, even though audio is still streaming. When trying to play back video using the Roku channel or on my Android using the app, it couldn't connect to the Simple.TV. Wasn't able to connect for about 24 hours before it randomly started working again. When it was working, it was pretty good.
The guide doesn't properly map OTA channels and some Clear QAM channels. Also keep in mind that this is a digital tuner only. Don't get it thinking you're going to get all your standard cable channels to stream or record. Only the Digitals will work.
This has a lot of potential to be a great product, but I can't help but feeling it needed another 2-3 months of development time before it should have been released. I'm guessing they were anxious to get it out vs the competition like Tablo (OTA only, no ClearQAM) and the Channel Master DVR+.
