This review is from: NUANCE PDF Converter 8.0
Pros: Love the software from V. 6.0 forward even tho' it's a bit cumbersome. I'm a WordPerfect holdout, and WP's Reveal Codes function fits hand-in-glove with PDF Converter. Also, I have to revise my classroom materials annually -- up to 100 pages -- and PDF Converter saves me so much time and pain. Don't know how well it works with MS Word or other word processing programs.
Cons: Fraudulent rebate offers through Helgeson
Did two rebates recently, PDF Converter and another software program. Filled out all the forms, included all required materials, and was refused on both for bogus "date" claims. The Nuance rejection letter said, "The purchase date on the sales receipt does not fall within the program dates." The outside date for this rebate was March 25th, as was the date on my Newegg invoice.
The other software's rejection letter stated: "Purchase date on the sales receipt is missing." My original receipt and its photocopies clearly demonstrated otherwise.
What these two purchases have in common is the company that handles the rebates:
Helgeson Enterprises Headquarters
4461 White Bear Parkway
White Bear Lake, MN 55110
(866) 762-9700 or (651) 762-9700
I emailed Helgeson from their website; haven't heard anything from them. I emailed Nuance with copies of everything previously submitted, and Nuance's customer service recently contacted me with the news that my Nuance rebate will be honored...roughly four months after the purchase date and untold time and frustration getting this company to hold up their end of the deal.
I still haven't heard from the other software vendor.
Deal is, if we let companies get away with cheating us individually, they'll continue to keep doing what they're doing to us as groups of consumers. I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), and the State Attorneys General Offices in California and Minnesota to register my complaints against Helgeson.
Other Thoughts: Despite the time and aggravation, always follow through to get what's advertised, to get what's rightfully yours.READ FULL REVIEW
Cons: ASRock Extreme9 X79 had difficulties recognizing card. Once recognized, sound was weak, garbled, uneven despite install/uninstall of several different drivers & four different PCI-E slots. PCI-E 3 suggested in manual (p.22) for Creative Sound Core3D 7.1 CH HD audio and Broadcom gigabit lan via the bundled ASRock Game Blaster; may have something to do with ReCon3D not working properly in this particular slot. Regardless, when I pay for any product, I expect it to work. Unfortunately, Creative products have let me down repeatedly over the years. Never again.READ FULL REVIEW
This review is from: CyberLink PowerDirector 9 Ultra 64
Pros: Simple/intuitive interface; impressive specs, loads of features that look good on paper. Free trial saved me $$.
Cons: Long on promise, short on delivery. Out of three attempts to render 20GB HD video, program froze at 5% every time. Pinnacle 15 HD, Corel Pro x3, Nero 10, & Adobe Elements Premiere 8 all handled the exact same sequence of video just fine, no glitches. Finished Blu-Ray discs all rock. PD9 rendered 5% & choked.
Other Thoughts: Intel Core i7 940, 12MB Corsair Dominator, EVGA SLI x58, Radeon 5850, 2 WD Velociraptor 600GB RAID 0. 450GB available, Windows 7 x64 SP1.
Totally cleaned & defragged system prior to install: CCleaner, Glary Utilities, Norton Utilities, Smart Defrag 2. Yes, cleaned with three different products, defragged with one.
Norton Internet Security 2011 (should it matter?)
Also, bought a Pioneer Blu-Ray writer about a year ago that came with Cyberlink's BD Solutions: Power DVD 8, PowerDirector 7 & Power2Go 6.0. Couldn't even get the programs to install properly. Never loaded, never tried. Apparently my machine doesn't like Cyberlink's products.
In fairness to Cyberlink, its software that came with my JVC video camera back in 2006 worked flawlessly with standard video files & my AMD Athlon 64 X2 3200+ 939 & MSI K8T Neo-FSR, 2GB RAM setup. Perhaps Cyberlink prefers AMD?
Unfortunately, Power Director 9 doesn't play nice with my current Intel system. Perhaps you'll have better luck wi
