Intel Pentium G3258 Haswell Dual-Core 3.2GHz LGA 1150 53W BX80646G3258 Desktop Processor
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 week to 1 month

Pros: Great bang/buck when you OC it.

Cons: Would be nice if they gave you the i5/i7 stock cooler (in other words, nothing to complain about for the price).

Other Thoughts: Even with cheap OCing boards that don't allow much voltage adjustment (B85, etc.) you can get 1Ghz overclock out of it. I paired it with the Gigabyte B85-Gaming 3 and it OC's to 4.2Ghz on 1.2V.

Raijintek Rhea 3Pcs 6mm Heat-Pipe, 9225 PWM Fan, Compatible with Intel Modern Sockets At Market
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 day to 1 week

Pros: Good price for a tower cooler. Stock intel mounting clips. Lightweight.

Cons: Fan clips are a little feeble, but they work.

Other Thoughts: Running with an OC'd G3258. Due to limit of motherboard, I can't use more than 1.2V, so I doubt I'll reach the limit of what this HSF can handle before the chip needs more voltage.

Looks like there's another version of this HSF with a mounting plate. Might try that one next time to see if I get slightly better temps.

GIGABYTE GA-B85M-Gaming 3 (rev. 1.0) LGA 1150 Intel B85 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 day to 1 week

Pros: OCing
Front USB 3.0 connector
Good price

Cons: 1.2V Vcore limit (EIST doesn't seem to work after voltage adjustment)

Other Thoughts: Paired with a G3258 for a cheap build. Went together smoothly booted first time with 2x4GB G.Skill Ares RAM.

Muliplier easy to change in bios, however, with a 1.2V Vcore limit, average G3258's will get to around 4.2Ghz. With 1.25-1.3V could have gotten 4.5Ghz. Either way, a 1Ghz OC on this combo is fine with me. Speedstep doesn't seem to allow the voltage to drop after setting in bios (tried setting it to "adaptive" with a .015V bump when under load), so it's stuck at 1.2V regardless of the load on the CPU. CPU speed will fluctuate between 800mhz and 4.2Ghz depending on the load.
