This review is from: SOCOM 4
Pros: -Single Player, Co-Op, Multiplayer (1-32)
-Sony Move, this is a different take on gameplay. With the Sharp Shooter this adds a new level of near reality.
-3rd Person Shooter which allows better views of the map, the ability to camp and the ability to peak around corners and set traps for the enemy.
-Reintroduce the PMN mine and other granades.
-Character and weapon change options while in game. Prior Socom games did not allow you to change your character easily
-You can pick up granades and weapons of the dead.
-*Duel primary weapons, you can run with a sniper and an assault rifle. (No handguns available)
Overall this is a whole new look and feel to the Socom franchise. They deviated from the traditional method that we all loved and introduced us to a whole new experience. Although it is different, it is a great game experience single player and multiplayer.
Cons: -It does not feel like a traditional Socom
-No lean, that is right, you cannot use the d-pad to lean, but you can peak around corners if you are using cover.
-They copied their MAG online interface and integrated it to Socom 4. This means that you can join friends easy but you cannot go into certain rooms and wait for all your friends to join. I belive that this was a mistake.
-It is harder to camp. In prior Socom games it was easy to take a sniper and lay low, but it seems that there are not nearly as many good places to hide.
-It is impossible to be stealthy in single player (HARD). I have yet been able to really attack the enemy with stealth (except for stealth missions).
-Less open map. What I mean is that you cannot have sniping compititions. The maps are very straight and there is little ability to see the whole map at one, allowing maximum sniping.
Other Thoughts: Honestly, I gave this a 5 egg because there are no other games that are this fun to play online or single player. I am a 3rd person fan and there not enough of them. Although they have a lot of flaws and have deviated from the traditional. I think that they can really make up in some future updates or additional add-ons. I think the knifing system is better. I think the graphics are better. I like the open mic (most times). The Sharp Shooter is a great addition.
*Don't buy this game if you want a traditional Socom
*Do buy this game if you like 3rd person shooters and are open to a different style of gameplay.
